I See Only The Past

visionv

As you practice today’s lesson, you experience how incredible it really is. You sit down for a moment, forget everything, and let the words wash over you. This is about you, here and now. Somebody is trying to tell you something.

I See Only The Past.

This idea is particularly difficult to believe at first. Yet it is the rationale for all of the preceding ones.

  • It is the reason why nothing that you see means anything.
  • It is the reason why you have given everything you see all the meaning that it has for you .
  • It is the reason why you do not understand anything you see.
  • It is the reason why your thoughts do not mean anything,
and why they are like the things you see .
  • It is the reason why you are never upset for the reason you think.

Old ideas about time are very difficult to change, because everything you believe is rooted in time, and depends on your not learning these new ideas about it. Yet that is precisely why you need new ideas about time.

Beyond the thoughts of which you are now aware, lie your real thoughts. They are waiting for you. They are the thoughts you think with God. It is in the willingness to let go of all ideas about what you perceive, that a new perception can come to you. And this is what you really want. Lets look a little further.

Look at a cup, for example. Do you see a cup, or are you merely reviewing your past experiences of picking up a cup, being thirsty, drinking from a cup, feeling the rim of a cup against your lips, having breakfast and so on? Are not your aesthetic reactions to the cup, too, based on past experiences? How else would you know whether or not this kind of cup will break if you drop it? What do you know about this cup except what you learned in the past? You would have no idea what this cup is, except for your past learning. Do you, then, really see it?

As you practice this lesson, you become aware that everything you perceive, you see from a past reference. This is not really seeing, it is literally holding on to old ideas about yourself, about the world, about the people in it. You can change your mind. You can see things differently. You can see.

Look about you. This is equally true of whatever you look at. Acknowledge this by applying the idea for today indiscriminately to whatever catches your eye. For example:

I see only the past in this pencil.
I see only the past in this shoe.
I see only the past in this hand.
I see only the past in that body.
I see only the past in that face.

As you allow the words to sink in, to work in you, you experience a letting go. You stand in an awareness of what has been and what is now. There is no need to bring the past into the now. There is no safety in it. There is no need to link time together in your mind, to sequence time, trying to find some safety in a place of chaos. It is not there. Depend on God. Let the Holy Spirit reveal to you what things truly are. Let Him take care of everything. All you have to do, is apply today’s lesson as you are asked.

Do not linger over any one thing in particular, but remember to omit nothing specifically. Glance briefly at each subject, and then move on to the next. Three or four practice periods, each to last a minute or so, will be enough.

It Can Be But My Gratitude I Earn

Give

The first 2 paragraphs of today’s lesson are entirely uncompromising. They are a complete confrontation with your self. It is the beauty of A Course In Miracles: you are always directed to your own mind, always asked to look at the action of your mind, the thoughts you think and that you give all power.

Here is the second step we take to free your mind from the belief in outside force pitted against your own. You make attempts at kindness and forgiveness. Yet you turn them to attack again, unless you find external gratitude and lavish thanks. Your gifts must be received with honor, lest they be withdrawn. And so you think God’s gifts are loans at best; at worst, deceptions which would cheat you of defenses, to ensure that when He strikes He will not fail to kill.

When you look at your mind honestly, you know that this is exactly what you do. You try to be kind, you fail at it in some way, and so you change your behavior. It is always directed outward, always focused on what you believe to be outside of you. Your acts of kindness have no true source, they come from a completely chaotic perception, from an entirely unstable thought system.

How easily are God and guilt confused by those who know not what their thoughts can do. Deny your strength, and weakness must become salvation to you. See yourself as bound, and bars become your home. Nor will you leave the prison house, or claim your strength, until guilt and salvation are not seen as one, and freedom and salvation are perceived as joined, with strength beside them, to be sought and claimed, and found and fully recognized.

This is all an action in your mind. What you experience and what you decide upon depends entirely on what you see, on where your focus lies. This is why the experience that to give and to receive are one is extremely important for you. Because once you recognize this, you will know that you only give to yourself. And in that experience you become more careful at what it is you give, what it is you extend. Because you know that when you condemn your brother you condemn yourself, that when you release your brother you release yourself.

The world must thank you when you offer it release from your illusions. Yet your thanks belong to you as well, for its release can only mirror yours. Your gratitude is all your gifts require, that they be a lasting offering of a thankful heart, released from hell forever. Is it this you would undo by taking back your gifts, because they were not honored? It is you who honor them and give them fitting thanks, for it is you who have received the gifts.

As you go inward, in your experience of your True Source that is God, and you extend from this holy altar in you, everything changes. This is because the world is a reflection of your mind. As you release your brother from the perception you have placed upon him, you experience the freedom of this release. But it is not until you actually experience this, that you will know it to be true. Until then, it is just words. A Course In Miracles does not offer a lofty experience, it is a very reasonable course. It is trying to bring you to a place where salvation is reasonable to you.

It does not matter if another thinks your gifts unworthy. In his mind there is a part that joins with yours in thanking you. It does not matter if your gifts seem lost and ineffectual. They are received where they are given. In your gratitude are they accepted universally, and thankfully acknowledged by the Heart of God Himself. And would you take them back, when He has gratefully accepted them?

This releases you entirely from looking for reflections of gratitude and lavish thanks. It may not look that way. But you don’t have to be concerned about it. Your gifts are always received. Don’t worry about appearances. Your gifts are received in you.

God blesses every gift you give to Him, and every gift is given Him, because it can be given only to yourself. And what belongs to God must be His Own. Yet you will never realize His gifts are sure, eternal, changeless, limitless, forever giving out, extending love and adding to your never-ending joy while you forgive but to attack again.

Withdraw the gifts you give, and you will think that what is given you has been withdrawn. But learn to let forgiveness take away the sins you think you see outside yourself, and you can never think the gifts of God are lent but for a little while, before He snatches them away again in death. For death will have no meaning for you then.

You never have to look any further than your own mind. Never, ever. In every encounter, in every situation, take responsibility for it. Let this be a total experience in your mind. You will be astonished at what happens in you. And you will immediately let it go, and make room for all that God is giving you each moment. This is the adventure. This is the excitement. It is not ego based at all, it is completely divine and always given.

Thanks be to you, the holy Son of God. For as you were created, you contain all things within your Self. And you are still as God created you. Nor can you dim the light of your perfection. In your heart the Heart of God is laid. He holds you dear, because you are Himself. All gratitude belongs to you, because of what you are.

You are as God created you. Period. End of story. This is the experience that is offered you every instant. Any grievance, any defense, any thought not of God blocks the experience. And this is where your awakening is entirely up to you. Let no idle thoughts come between you and your Father, no matter how beautiful and lofty they seem to be, let those go as well. God is reasonable. It is the part of your mind where things simply make sense, effortlessly. This is what you are offered today. And today you will receive it.

Give thanks as you receive it. Be you free of all ingratitude to anyone who makes your Self complete. And from this Self is no one left outside. Give thanks for all the countless channels which extend this Self. All that you do is given unto Him. All that you think can only be His Thoughts, sharing with Him the holy Thoughts of God. Earn now the gratitude you have denied yourself when you forgot the function God has given you. But never think that He has ever ceased to offer thanks to you.

By Grace I Live. By Grace I Am Released.

By Grace I Live.

Grace is an aspect of the Love of God which is most like the state prevailing in the unity of truth. It is the world’s most lofty aspiration, for it leads beyond the world entirely. It is past learning, yet the goal of learning, for grace cannot come until the mind prepares itself for true acceptance. Grace becomes inevitable instantly in those who have prepared a table where it can be gently laid and willingly received; an altar clean and holy for the gift.

Today you are asked to accept the grace of God. It is something that is available to you this instant. But before you can accept it, you need to take a look at what the grace of God actually is. A Course In Miracles  is reasonable, it works with your mind, because you are only mind. The thought that is given you for the day, in the workbook, is always something to read, think about, practice, apply to your mind. In this action something happens that is not of you. It is given in the little willingness to keep your mind open so all things can be revealed to you anew.

Grace is acceptance of the Love of God within a world of seeming hate and fear. By grace alone the hate and fear are gone, for grace presents a state so opposite to everything the world contains, that those whose minds are lighted by the gift of grace can not believe the world of fear is real.

Grace is not learned. The final step must go beyond all learning. Grace is not the goal this course aspires to attain. Yet we prepare for grace in that an open mind can hear the Call to waken. It is not shut tight against God’s Voice. It has become aware that there are things it does not know, and thus is ready to accept a state completely different from experience with which it is familiarly at home.

Grace is really a state of mind, an acceptance and not a doing. It’s not an assertion of any kind. It is the willingness to let all things be exactly as they are and to experience a grace that has nothing to do with the world you see. You can see things differently, but the change of mind is not of you. It happens when you least expect it and in a way you can’t imagine. It is a personal experience, between you and God, in the acceptance of total responsibility for the world you see.

Oneness is simply the idea God is. And in His Being, He encompasses all things. No mind holds anything but Him. We say “God is,” and then we cease to speak, for in that knowledge words are meaningless. There are no lips to speak them, and no part of mind sufficiently distinct to feel that it is now aware of something not itself. It has united with its Source. And like its Source Itself, it merely is.

We cannot speak nor write nor even think of this at all. It comes to every mind when total recognition that its will is God’s has been completely given and received completely. It returns the mind into the endless present, where the past and future cannot be conceived. It lies beyond salvation; past all thought of time, forgiveness and the holy face of Christ. The Son of God has merely disappeared into his Father, as his Father has in him. The world has never been at all. Eternity remains a constant state.

How can you conceive of what lies beyond salvation, beyond time, forgiveness and the face of Christ? You can’t. But there is one who walks with you, who is eager to give you all things that you have looked for since the beginning of time. In the acceptance of the atonement, you experience yourself as God created you. This is what is offered you. Intellectually you can’t grasp it, no matter how hard you try. And the more you try to hold your world, your life as you conceive of it, together, the more it will fall apart on you. It is meant to. Let it be. This is not a doing, it is an undoing.

This is beyond experience we try to hasten. Yet forgiveness, taught and learned, brings with it the experiences which bear witness that the time the mind itself determined to abandon all but this is now at hand. We do not hasten it, in that what you will offer was concealed from Him Who teaches what forgiveness means.

You finally recognize that there is nothing you can do to bring your experience about, other than the simple instructions Jesus gives you in the workbook. Anything you try to do to hasten it, only slows it down. The more you try to grasp it, the more it slips through your fingers. The more comfortable you get, the more you will be dislodged. It is not for the faint of heart, but this is why you have been chosen. You have the determination and the perseverance, somewhere in you there is a willingness to be wrong about everything, and in the letting go of everything you now believe, you experience the peace and love and grace of God.

There is no need to further clarify what no one in the world can understand. When revelation of your oneness comes, it will be known and fully understood. Now we have work to do, for those in time can speak of things beyond, and listen to words which explain what is to come is past already. Yet what meaning can the words convey to those who count the hours still, and rise and work and go to sleep by them?

Suffice it, then, that you have work to do to play your part. The ending must remain obscure to you until your part is done. It does not matter. For your part is still what all the rest depends on. As you take the role assigned to you, salvation comes a little nearer each uncertain heart that does not beat as yet in tune with God.

You have a part to play. Nothing can happen until you step in to your full responsibility as teacher of God, whatever that looks like. You have to give your experience away. This is not about exchange, it is about the recognition that you are giving only to yourself. And as you give that which you can’t speak of, you experience how you receive what you give. And you know this Course to be true.

Our learning goal today does not exceed this prayer. Yet in the world, what could be more than what we ask this day of Him Who gives the grace we ask, as it was given Him?

By grace I live. By grace I am released.
By grace I give. By grace I will release.

I Give The Miracles I Have Received

One

No one can give what he has not received. To give a thing requires first you have it in your own possession. Here the laws of Heaven and the world agree. But here they also separate. The world believes that to possess a thing, it must be kept. Salvation teaches otherwise. To give is how to recognize you have received. It is the proof that what you have is yours.

A Course In Miracles  always leads you to the experience that truth is exactly the opposite of what you believe it is. You are shown the law of cause and effect, that there is nothing outside of you, that to give and to receive are one. The experience is required, otherwise it’s just words: beautiful words, reasonable words, but empty.

You understand that you are healed when you give healing. You accept forgiveness as accomplished in yourself when you forgive. You recognize your brother as yourself, and thus do you perceive that you are whole. There is no miracle you cannot give, for all are given you. Receive them now by opening the storehouse of your mind where they are laid, and giving them away.

The storehouse of your mind… reading this sentence, your mind opens up to infinite possibilities. Is there really a place in your mind filled with the gifts of God? Indeed there is. But until you become aware of this storehouse, it remains unused, and you will be unaware of all the gifts that are available to you right here and now. How do you recognize this storehouse? By giving the gifts away, certainly not by holding on and tightly guarding them, afraid to lose them. This is the key: you have to give them away in order to know that you have them.

Christ’s vision is a miracle. It comes from far beyond itself, for it reflects Eternal Love and the rebirth of love which never dies, but has been kept obscure. Christ’s vision pictures Heaven, for it sees a world so like to Heaven that what God created perfect can be mirrored there. The darkened glass the world presents can show but twisted images in broken parts. The real world pictures Heaven’s innocence.

Christ’s vision is the miracle in which all miracles are born. It is their source, remaining with each miracle you give, and yet remaining yours. It is the bond by which the giver and receiver are united in extension here on earth, as they are one in Heaven. Christ beholds no sin in anyone. And in His sight the sinless are as one. Their holiness was given by His Father and Himself.

Christ’s vision is the bridge between the worlds. And in its power can you safely trust to carry you from this world into one made holy by forgiveness. Things which seem quite solid here are merely shadows there; transparent, faintly seen, at times forgot, and never able to obscure the light that shines beyond them. Holiness has been restored to vision, and the blind can see.

This is available to you, right here and right now. Just for a moment, lay aside all you think you know and value. Clear your mind of everything, all worry about past and future events. Being in this moment, now, is beyond time altogether. Now has nothing to do with time. Here has nothing to do with space. Be still, just for an instant, and allow God’s gifts to reveal themselves to you.

This is the Holy Spirit’s single gift; the treasure house to which you can appeal with perfect certainty for all the things that can contribute to your happiness. All are laid here already. All can be received but for the asking. Here the door is never locked, and no one is denied his least request or his most urgent need. There is no sickness not already healed, no lack unsatisfied, no need unmet within this golden treasury of Christ.

A storehouse filled with treasures that are true. They are eternal and have always been there, and now you finally become aware of them. How can you feel poor with such treasures given you? How can you be concerned when you recognize all you have been given? There is an experience available to you that has nothing to do with the world you see. And it is all contained in you.

Take from His storehouse, that its treasures may increase. His lilies do not leave their home when they are carried back into the world. Their roots remain. They do not leave their source, but carry its beneficence with them, and turn the world into a garden like the one they came from, and to which they go again with added fragrance. Now are they twice blessed. The messages they brought from Christ have been delivered, and returned to them. And they return them gladly unto Him.

Beyond the laws of the world you see, there is a certainty that is of God. His gifts increase as they are given away, because their roots are of Him and will not falter and cannot die. The experience of the truth of this is available to you, by the simple act of giving what you have been given. Practice this today. Start giving. Beyond all material things there are gifts which are eternal. Let it be revealed to you what you can give, then trust in giving it away. You cannot lose by giving.

Behold the store of miracles set out for you to give. Are you not worth the gift, when God appointed it be given you? Judge not God’s Son, but follow in the way He has established. Christ has dreamed the dream of a forgiven world. It is His gift, whereby a sweet transition can be made from death to life; from hopelessness to hope. Let us an instant dream with Him. His dream awakens us to truth. His vision gives the means for a return to our unlost and everlasting sanctity in God.

I Loose The World From All I Thought It Was

Lesson 132

When you look at this lesson, you start to recognize what it really offers you. As you practice it, you feel the chains you have put on your mind by giving reality to the world’s laws, fall away. The beauty of it is really that you are free. This doesn’t mean that you start behaving like a mad person, disobeying every worldly law. Obeying and disobeying are really the same, they spring from the same idea that the laws of the world are real and now you will decide whether to obey them or not. What A Course In Miracles offers you is the experience that the laws of the world have no hold on you. This experience goes beyond space and time altogether. This is why it is a course in miracles.

I loose the world from all I thought it was.

What keeps the world in chains but your beliefs? And what can save the world except your Self? Belief is powerful indeed. The thoughts you hold are mighty, and illusions are as strong in their effects as is the truth. A madman thinks the world he sees is real, and does not doubt it. Nor can he be swayed by questioning his thoughts’ effects. It is but when their source is raised to question that the hope of freedom comes to him at last.

Beliefs are powerful indeed. At some point you are going to have to look at the power of your mind. Everything you believe, you make true for you. And you do not question it. And everything, and everyone, that tries to tell you differently, you refuse to listen to. When you think you know, your mind is closed. Today, open your mind just a little, that something entirely different may reveal itself to you.

Yet is salvation easily achieved, for anyone is free to change his mind, and all his thoughts change with it. Now the source of thought has shifted, for to change your mind means you have changed the source of all ideas you think or ever thought or yet will think.

You free the past from what you thought before. You free the future from all ancient thoughts of seeking what you do not want to find. The present now remains the only time. Here in the present is the world set free. For as you let the past be lifted and release the future from your ancient fears, you find escape and give it to the world.

You can change your mind. Every lesson in the workbook directs you to this. It is really an inward journey without distance, an instant of honesty where you look at your world and ask yourself if this is what you really want. It may very well be that you are doing just great, but everyone is dying around you. Somewhere you go from an ego-focus to an all inclusive awareness in the recognition that there is nothing outside of you. Sickness, pain and death are all ideas in your mind that you firmly believe. Today’s lesson tries to dislodge your mind from them.

You have enslaved the world with all your fears, your doubts and miseries, your pain and tears; and all your sorrows press on it, and keep the world a prisoner to your beliefs. Death strikes it everywhere because you hold the bitter thoughts of death within your mind. The world is nothing in itself. Your mind must give it meaning. And what you behold upon it are your wishes, acted out so you can look on them and think them real.

Perhaps you think you did not make the world, but came unwillingly to what was made already, hardly waiting for your thoughts to give it meaning. Yet in truth you found exactly what you looked for when you came. There is no world apart from what you wish, and herein lies your ultimate release. Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly.

It’s a very uncompromising lesson, it leaves you no wiggle room at all. But herein lies your salvation. You bind the world you see by your ideas about it. Such is the power of your mind. You don’t have to believe it, just practice it for a moment. Allow the light to penetrate your mind, in between your thoughts.

There is no world! This is the central thought the course attempts to teach. Not everyone is ready to accept it, and each one must go as far as he can let himself be led along the road to truth. He will return and go still farther, or perhaps step back a while and then return again.

But healing is the gift of those who are prepared to learn there is no world, and can accept the lesson now. Their readiness will bring the lesson to them in some form which they can understand and recognize. Some see it suddenly on point of death, and rise to teach it. Others find it in experience that is not of this world, which shows them that the world does not exist because what they behold must be the truth, and yet it clearly contradicts the world.

When you ask for the experience, it is given you. Ask and you shall receive. It all happens in an instant where you, just for a moment, let go of all your beliefs and ideas and you stand in excited expectation. You don’t know what the revelation will look like, but you trust in God. He will give you something you can receive, and that you can understand.

Release the world! Your real creations wait for this release to give you fatherhood, not of illusions, but as God in truth. God shares His Fatherhood with you who are His Son, for He makes no distinctions in what is Himself and what is still Himself. What He creates is not apart from Him, and nowhere does the Father end, the Son begin as something separate from Him.

I invite you to read the whole lesson, it is available at http://www.acimdailylesson.com. The words lead you to an experience that words can’t describe. All it takes is that you read them, think about them, practice them, let them work in you. A little willingness goes a long way.

Today our purpose is to free the world from all the idle thoughts we ever held about it, and about all living things we see upon it. They can not be there. No more can we. For we are in the home our Father set for us, along with them. And we who are as He created us would loose the world this day from every one of our illusions, that we may be free.

Begin the fifteen-minute periods in which we practice twice today with this:

I who remain as God created me would loose the world from
all I thought it was. For I am real because the world is not,
and I would know my own reality.

Then merely rest, alert but with no strain, and let your mind in quietness be changed so that the world is freed, along with you.

You need not realize that healing comes to many brothers far across the world, as well as to the ones you see nearby, as you send out these thoughts to bless the world. But you will sense your own release, although you may not fully understand as yet that you could never be released alone.

Throughout the day, increase the freedom sent through your ideas to all the world, and say whenever you are tempted to deny the power of your simple change of mind:

I loose the world from all I thought it was,
and choose my own reality instead.

Review Lesson 120

I rest in God

The beauty of today’s review lesson is the peace and rest it offers. In you is a place of respite from the world you see, a quiet place that is the altar of God, your natural inheritance that is your complete dependence on your Creator. These lessons are not just words that you repeat to yourself in the morning and that make you feel good for a moment, after which you continue getting lost in the turmoil of your existence in time and space. They are not concepts which you are asked to intellectually understand and then lay aside. These words offer you a real experience, if you let them.

(109) I rest in God.

I rest in God today, and let Him work in me and
through me, while I rest in Him in quiet and in
perfect certainty.

(110) I am as God created me.

I am God’s Son. Today I lay aside all sick illusions of
myself, and let my Father tell me Who I really am.

You have to, somewhere, want more than just a flimsy moment of feeling good. God’s will for you is perfect happiness, and perfect happiness has nothing to do with time and space, nothing to do with a body, nothing to do with this world. It is an experience of remembering who you truly are, and it is given by God as you direct your mind to the truth of the words you speak today. Once you have this experience, it is something you can always go back to when you forget. As Jesus tells you in the introduction to these lessons:

In these reviews, we stress the need to let your learning not lie idly by between your longer practice periods.  Attempt to give your daily two ideas a brief but serious review each hour.  Use one on the hour, and the other one a half an hour later.  You need not give more than just a moment to each one.  Repeat it, and allow your mind to rest a little time in silence and in peace.  Then turn to other things, but try to keep the thought with you, and let it serve to help you keep your peace throughout the day as well.

If you are shaken, think of it again.  These practice periods are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.  Do not repeat the thought and lay it down.  Its usefulness is limitless to you.  And it is meant to serve you in all ways, all times and places, and whenever you need help of any kind.  Try, then, to take it with you in the business of the day and make it holy, worthy of God’s Son, acceptable to God and to your Self.

It is a practice, this is why it is called a mind training. The workbook lessons help you to keep your mind focused on God, they offer you a frame of reference for the truth in you, but the application of the lesson is up to you. The more you offer this Course, the more it offers you. The more you apply your mind to it, the more you experience the simplicity and effortlessness of remembering Who you are. There is an experience available to you that goes beyond the world you see altogether, and it is this you truly want.

Do not forget how little you have learned.
Do not forget how much you can learn now.
Do not forget your Father’s need of you,
As you review these thoughts He gave to you.

On the hour:
I rest in God.

On the half hour:
I am as God created me.

Review Lesson 116

amourrose

We are still in the review lessons, and they are spectacular. Leave it to A Course In Miracles to let the Introduction and the repeating of a lesson be a complete experience in an of itself. Let’s take a look at what you are told by Jesus in the introduction to these reviews. It takes some rigorous honesty to read the confrontation that He offers you.

Our next review begins today.  We will review two recent lessons every day for ten successive days of practicing.  We will observe a special format for these practice periods, that you are urged to follow just as closely as you can.

We understand, of course, that it may be impossible for you to undertake what is suggested here as optimal each day and every hour of the day.  Learning will not be hampered when you miss a practice period because it is impossible at the appointed time.  Nor is it necessary that you make excessive efforts to be sure that you catch up in terms of numbers.  Rituals are not our aim, and would defeat our goal.

But learning will be hampered when you skip a practice period because you are unwilling to devote the time to it that you are asked to give.  Do not deceive yourself in this.  Unwillingness can be most carefully concealed behind a cloak of situations you cannot control.  Learn to distinguish situations that are poorly suited to your practicing from those that you establish to uphold a camouflage for your unwillingness.

You don’t get away with anything. Thank God for that. This Course is not some whishy-washy attempt at enlightenment, it is an undoing of a thought system that prevents you from experiencing the light that you are. It is a mind training. The Course starts out by telling you that you do not choose the curriculum, you can only decide what you want to do at any given time. So, you follow instructions. You listen carefully. You do as you are told. And you are given everything.

The format you should use for these reviews is this: Devote five minutes twice a day, or longer if you would prefer it, to considering the thoughts that are assigned.  Read over the ideas and comments that are written down for each day’s exercise.  And then begin to think about them, while letting your mind relate them to your needs, your seeming problems and all your concerns.

Place the ideas within your mind, and let it use them as it chooses.  Give it faith that it will use them wisely, being helped in its decisions by the One Who gave the thoughts to you.  What can you trust but what is in your mind?  Have faith, in these reviews, the means the Holy Spirit uses will not fail.  The wisdom of your mind will come to your assistance.  Give direction at the outset; then lean back in quiet faith, and let the mind employ the thoughts you gave as they were given you for it to use.

It is beautiful to look at this. You place the thoughts within your mind, and then you trust your mind to use the thoughts as it sees fit. You are helped in this. All you need to is practice as you are asked.

You have been given them in perfect trust; in perfect confidence that you would use them well; in perfect faith that you would see their messages and use them for yourself.  Offer them to your mind in that same trust and confidence and faith.  It will not fail.  It is the Holy Spirit’s chosen means for your salvation.  Since it has His trust, His means must surely merit yours as well.

Beautiful words. Read them. Feel them use them. Now let’s take a look at the review lessons for today.

(101) God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.

God’s Will is perfect happiness for me. And I can suffer
but from the belief there is another will apart from His.

(102) I share God’s Will for happiness for me.

I share my Father’s Will for me, His Son.
What He has given me is all I want.
What He has given me is all there is.

What God wills for you is perfect happiness. It is, in fact, a happiness that has nothing to do with this world. It goes beyond time and space altogether. It comes down to an experience of surrender, the recognition that there is a Plan that is of God, that you are given everything you need. This can’t be understood conceptually, it has to be an experience. So ask for the experience. Let it be given you. Beyond your reasoning, beyond your fear to survive and exist, beyond everything you now think you know lies the Peace of God. It is this you truly want.

I Am As God Created Me

asgodcreatedme

Today’s lesson is essential in the workbook of A Course In Miracles. There are 3 lessons with the same title:

Lesson 94 ~ I am as God created me.
Lesson 100 ~ I am as God created me.
Lesson 162 ~ I am as God created me.

After that come the reviews, so you can say that this is an important lesson. You may, in fact, say it is the most important lesson. It offers you the remembering of who you truly are. It is the essence of you.

Today we continue with the one idea which brings complete salvation; the one statement which makes all forms of temptation powerless; the one thought which renders the ego silent and entirely undone. You are as God created you.  The sounds of this world are still, the sights of this world disappear, and all the thoughts that this world ever held are wiped away forever by this one idea. Here is salvation accomplished. Here is sanity restored.

You may read this and wonder how the sounds of this world can be still, how the sights of this world disappear, and how all thoughts are wiped away. In the text Jesus tells you something of the same order: the body should not feel at all. How is this possible? Certainly it is not of your doing, since you believe you are a body in a world. You trust your ears and eyes implicitly, even though they have been faulty witnesses. You rely on them for your judgments, to keep  separation from everyone and everything in place. Jesus has asked you why you keep trusting your judgements, when you have been proven wrong so often. And then there are times when you have been mistaken, and you were completely unaware how wrong you actually were. It is like you are stuck in a bubble, and you can’t see past it. Today’s lesson offers you a way out.

True light is strength, and strength is sinlessness. If you remain as God created you, you must be strong and light must be in you. He Who ensured your sinlessness must be the guarantee of strength and light as well. You are as God created you. Darkness cannot obscure the glory of God’s Son. You stand in light, strong in the sinlessness in which you were created, and in which you will remain throughout eternity.

Today we will again devote the first five minutes of each waking hour to the attempt to feel the truth in you. Begin these times of searching with these words:

I am as God created me.
I am His Son eternally.

Now try to reach the Son of God in you. This is the Self that never sinned, nor made an image to replace reality. This is the Self that never left Its home in God to walk the world uncertainly. This is the Self that knows no fear, nor could conceive of loss or suffering or death.

Make no mistake about it, this is not a doing but an undoing. It is not hard to reach God, it doesn’t take great effort. It  is not a long, hard road upward that you walk with bleeding feet, exhausted when you reach your goal. It is a letting go, a stepping back.

Nothing is required of you to reach this goal except to lay all idols and self-images aside; go past the list of attributes, both good and bad, you have ascribed to yourself; and wait in silent expectancy for the truth. God has Himself promised that it will be revealed to all who ask for it. You are asking now. You cannot fail because He cannot fail.

Ask and you shall receive. It can’t be any simpler. You can practice this lesson wherever you are, whenever you are. In the midst of chaos, you can still your mind. At work, at play, driving, singing, dancing. The truth will reveal itself to you effortlessly and fill you with light and peace and joy.

Tell yourself frequently today that you are as God created you. And be sure to respond to anyone who seems to irritate you with these words:

You are as God created you.
You are His Son eternally.

You simply let it all go, because you want to experience the truth. No trivial upset is worth disrupting your peace of mind. It always comes down to a simple question ‘Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?’ Let it all go today. Let it all be God. What is offered you is so much more than you can imagine. And when you experience it, you will realize that you want it above all else.

Light And Joy And Peace Abide In Me

lightjoypeace

You think you are the home of evil, darkness and sin. You think if anyone could see the truth about you he would be repelled, recoiling from you as if from a poisonous snake. You think if what is true about you were revealed to you, you would be struck with horror so intense that you would rush to death by your own hand, living on after seeing this being impossible.

These are beliefs so firmly fixed that it is difficult to help you see that they are based on nothing. That you have made mistakes is obvious. That you have sought salvation in strange ways; have been deceived, deceiving and afraid of foolish fantasies and savage dreams; and have bowed down to idols made of dust,–all this is true by what you now believe.

Reading the first sentences in today’s lesson, it may strike you how visual it really is. Jesus, in the New Testament, uses parables, stories and symbols you can relate to. Today he uses the visual ‘recoiling from you as if from a poisonous snake’. Look at it for a moment, see it as it is expressed. This is what you believe will happen when you express the truth of who you are. Not only that, you will be ‘struck with horror so intense’, all very negative connotations, and all equally meaningless.

Now Jesus leads you gently into this belief system that you value so dearly and he shows you what it offers you: the belief that you have made mistakes, that you are strange, deceived, deceiving and afraid, that you have let yourself be misled by idols. Looking around in this circle of littleness within your own mind, you may well ask yourself how you can get out if this belief system. You are not alone in this. Jesus is with you.

Today we question this, not from the point of view of what you think, but from a very different reference point, from which such idle thoughts are meaningless. These thoughts are not according to God’s Will. These weird beliefs He does not share with you. This is enough to prove that they are wrong, but you do not perceive that this is so.

Why would you not be overjoyed to be assured that all the evil that you think you did was never done, that all your sins are nothing, that you are as pure and holy as you were created, and that light and joy and peace abide in you Your image of yourself cannot withstand the Will of God. You think that this is death, but it is life. You think you are destroyed, but you are saved.

You are brought to zero, to the place where you let it all go. There is no belief, no judgment, no idea to hold on to. The image you hold of yourself, your identity, is not who you truly are. It is being erased, undone. You think it is death, but it is life. And the amazing thing of it is, that in this undoing, as you come to life, you realize you’re still you. This can’t be explained. You remember who you truly are, beyond this world, beyond any limited self-identity.

The self you made is not the Son of God. Therefore, this self does not exist at all. And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. It is neither bad nor good. It is unreal, and nothing more than that. It does not battle with the Son of God. It does not hurt him, nor attack his peace. It has not changed creation, nor reduced eternal sinlessness to sin, and love to hate. What power can this self you made possess, when it would contradict the Will of God?

Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Over and over this must be repeated, until it is accepted. It is true. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Nothing can touch it, or change what God created as eternal. The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.

As you read this lesson, and apply it to your mind, you start to feel the light and joy and peace it offers you. The words express the truth of you. You feel all your old ideas fall away, and new ones instantly take their place. You recognize them immediately, they are new and yet ancient. You remember them well. All this lesson offers is an undoing of your old thought system, so that the Thought of God can take its place.

Salvation requires the acceptance of but one thought;–you are as God created you, not what you made of yourself.  Whatever evil you may think you did, you are as God created you. Whatever mistakes you made, the truth about you is unchanged. Creation is eternal and unalterable. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. You are and will forever be exactly as you were created. Light and joy and peace abide in you because God put them there.

In our longer exercise periods today, which would be most profitable if done for the first five minutes of every waking hour, begin by stating the truth about your creation:

Light and joy and peace abide in me.
My sinlessness is guaranteed by God.

Then put away your foolish self-images, and spend the rest of the practice period in trying to experience what God has given you, in place of what you have decreed for yourself.

As you practice these words, let the experience be formless. Don’t try to figure out what the words mean, or what it is that you are being led to. It will reveal itself to you effortlessly if you simply step back. Say the words and let them work in you. Let them reveal their truth to you. As Jesus says in A Course In Miracles ‘resign now as your own teacher’. Be willing not to know. In that instant all knowledge can be revealed to you.

You are what God created or what you made. One Self is true; the other is not there. Try to experience the unity of your one Self. Try to appreciate Its Holiness and the love from which It was created. Try not to interfere with the Self which God created as you, by hiding Its majesty behind the tiny idols of evil and sinfulness you have made to replace It. Let It come into Its Own. Here you are; This is You. And light and joy and peace abide in you because this is so.

Miracles Are Seen In Light, And Light And Strength Are One

Miracles are seen in light

The idea for today is an extension of the previous one. You do not think of light in terms of strength, and darkness in terms of weakness. That is because your idea of what seeing means is tied up with the body and its eyes and brain. Thus you believe that you can change what you see by putting little bits of glass before your eyes. This is among the many magical beliefs that come from the conviction you are a body, and the body’s eyes can see.

You also believe the body’s brain can think. If you but understood the nature of thought, you could but laugh at this insane idea. It is as if you thought you held the match that lights the sun and gives it all its warmth; or that you held the world within your hand, securely bound until you let it go. Yet this is no more foolish than to believe the body’s eyes can see; the brain can think.

The workbook lesson for today follows the lesson ‘Miracles Are Seen In Light’. You have been shown how crucial the light is, you can’t see in darkness, and your mind is directed to find this light. Now you are asked to look at your belief that you are a body and that the body’s eyes can see, and you are shown that the body’s eyes will never see this light. You have been given a reset button for your belief that the body’s eyes can see and that the brain can think. It is not so. Let’s look a little further.

It is God’s strength in you that is the light in which you see, as it is His Mind with which you think. His strength denies your weakness. It is your weakness that sees through the body’s eyes, peering about in darkness to behold the likeness of itself; the small, the weak, the sickly and the dying, those in need, the helpless and afraid, the sad, the poor, the starving and the joyless. These are seen through eyes that cannot see and cannot bless.

Strength overlooks these things by seeing past appearances. It keeps its steady gaze upon the light that lies beyond them. It unites with light, of which it is a part. It sees itself. It brings the light in which your Self appears. In darkness you perceive a self that is not there. Strength is the truth about you; weakness is an idol falsely worshipped and adored that strength may be dispelled, and darkness rule where God appointed that there should be light.

There is a strength in you that is of God. It is your natural inheritance. This has nothing to do with the body, nothing to do with any idea of limitation. Your Identity is the grandeur that is given you by God. Beyond the body, beyond this world, beyond any idea you have of who you are and who God is, lies the truth. This is what you are directed to today. Try not to give it any form, let it be revealed to you exactly as it is.

Strength comes from truth, and shines with light its Source has given it; weakness reflects the darkness of its maker. It is sick and looks on sickness, which is like itself. Truth is a savior and can only will for happiness and peace for everyone.  It gives its strength to everyone who asks, in limitless supply. It sees that lack in anyone would be a lack in all. And so it gives its light that all may see and benefit as one. Its strength is shared, that it may bring to all the miracle in which they will unite in purpose and forgiveness and in love.

Weakness, which looks in darkness, cannot see a purpose in forgiveness and in love. It sees all others different from itself, and nothing in the world that it would share. It judges and condemns, but does not love. In darkness it remains to hide itself, and dreams that it is strong and conquering, a victor over limitations that but grow in darkness to enormous size.

It fears and it attacks and hates itself, and darkness covers everything it sees, leaving its dreams as fearful as itself. No miracles are here, but only hate. It separates itself from what it sees, while light and strength perceive themselves as one. The light of strength is not the light you see. It does not change and flicker and go out. It does not shift from night to day, and back to darkness till the morning comes again.

This is so spectacular. The strength of God has nothing to do with your limited idea of what strength is. You think of strength as victory, as a posture of puffed-upness where nothing can touch you or really affect you, yet all the while you are afraid. Real strength is defenselessness, the willingness to be zero. In that place, in a holy instant, you go past all illusions to the truth that is the strength of God in you. Beyond words, it is an experience. It is real and it is available to you right here and now.

The light of strength is constant, sure as love, forever glad to give itself away, because it cannot give but to itself. No one can ask in vain to share its sight, and none who enters its abode can leave without a miracle before his eyes, and strength and light abiding in his heart.

The strength in you will offer you the light, and guide your seeing so you do not dwell on idle shadows that the body’s eyes provide for self-deception. Strength and light unite in you, and where they meet, your Self stands ready to embrace you as Its Own. Such is the meeting place we try today to find and rest in, for the peace of God is where your Self, His Son, is waiting now to meet Itself again, and be as One.

In practicing this workbook you become so grateful for what it offers you. What is in you, given by God, you cannot lose. Once you experience it, you can always find it, no matter what the circumstance. Think of what is given you. The real law of cause and effect, the knowledge that there is nothing outside you. This is the real power of your mind. You can at any given moment, right here and right now, experience the truth of who you are.

Let us give twenty minutes twice today to join this meeting. Let yourself be brought unto your Self. Its strength will be the light in which the gift of sight is given you. Leave, then, the dark a little while today, and we will practice seeing in the light, closing the body’s eyes and asking truth to show us how to find the meeting place of self and Self, where light and strength are one.

Morning and evening we will practice thus. After the morning meeting, we will use the day in preparation for the time at night when we will meet again in trust. Let us repeat as often as we can the idea for today, and recognize that we are being introduced to sight, and led away from darkness to the light where only miracles can be perceived.
