This is one of my favorite lessons. Just saying it is an instant release.
I loose the world from all I thought it was.
What keeps the world in chains but your beliefs? And what can save the world except your Self? Belief is powerful indeed. The thoughts you hold are mighty, and illusions are as strong in their effects as is the truth. A madman thinks the world he sees is real, and does not doubt it. Nor can he be swayed by questioning his thoughts’ effects. It is but when their source is raised to question that the hope of freedom comes to him at last.
It’s amazing when you discover that your mind gives everything all the meaning that it has. It really does come down to the first 50 lessons. Nothing I see means anything. I have given what I see all the meaning that it has for me. I do not understand anything I see. My thoughts do not mean anything. I am determined to see. The power of your mind can give power to truth or illusion. And which one you choose to see will be your reality. Being in the illusion, you can’t see outside of it and you are unaware of the truth that is all around you. You need a wake-up call, and when you ask for it, it will be given you in a form that you can recognize. You might not like it initially, but it will stir something up in you that will make you question every value that you hold and it will make you ask for help. Now you apply the lesson because you need it and you feel it working in you.
There is no world! This is the central thought the course attempts to teach. Not everyone is ready to accept it, and each one must go as far as he can let himself be led along the road to truth. He will return and go still farther, or perhaps step back a while and then return again.
I love the uncompromising nature of this lesson. It actually tells you in no uncertain terms the fact of the matter: there is no world. You are only seeing a reflection of your wishes and desires.
There is no world because it is a thought apart from God, and made to separate the Father and the Son, and break away a part of God Himself and thus destroy His Wholeness. Can a world which comes from this idea be real? Can it be anywhere? Deny illusions, but accept the truth. Deny you are a shadow briefly laid upon a dying world. Release your mind, and you will look upon a world released.
Now you are standing at a crossroads. You can go ahead like you have always done, pretending there is a world outside of you, until you come again to this point of real choice. Or you can travel on a new yet ancient road without distance that leads you directly into an instant of eternity. All that is asked of you is to practice today’s lesson. All you need do to know with absolute certainty that there is no world, is to say to yourself throughout the day:
I loose the world from all I thought it was, and choose my own reality instead.
