I Am As God Created Me

asgodcreatedme

Today’s lesson is essential in the workbook of A Course In Miracles. There are 3 lessons with the same title:

Lesson 94 ~ I am as God created me.
Lesson 100 ~ I am as God created me.
Lesson 162 ~ I am as God created me.

After that come the reviews, so you can say that this is an important lesson. You may, in fact, say it is the most important lesson. It offers you the remembering of who you truly are. It is the essence of you.

Today we continue with the one idea which brings complete salvation; the one statement which makes all forms of temptation powerless; the one thought which renders the ego silent and entirely undone. You are as God created you.  The sounds of this world are still, the sights of this world disappear, and all the thoughts that this world ever held are wiped away forever by this one idea. Here is salvation accomplished. Here is sanity restored.

You may read this and wonder how the sounds of this world can be still, how the sights of this world disappear, and how all thoughts are wiped away. In the text Jesus tells you something of the same order: the body should not feel at all. How is this possible? Certainly it is not of your doing, since you believe you are a body in a world. You trust your ears and eyes implicitly, even though they have been faulty witnesses. You rely on them for your judgments, to keep  separation from everyone and everything in place. Jesus has asked you why you keep trusting your judgements, when you have been proven wrong so often. And then there are times when you have been mistaken, and you were completely unaware how wrong you actually were. It is like you are stuck in a bubble, and you can’t see past it. Today’s lesson offers you a way out.

True light is strength, and strength is sinlessness. If you remain as God created you, you must be strong and light must be in you. He Who ensured your sinlessness must be the guarantee of strength and light as well. You are as God created you. Darkness cannot obscure the glory of God’s Son. You stand in light, strong in the sinlessness in which you were created, and in which you will remain throughout eternity.

Today we will again devote the first five minutes of each waking hour to the attempt to feel the truth in you. Begin these times of searching with these words:

I am as God created me.
I am His Son eternally.

Now try to reach the Son of God in you. This is the Self that never sinned, nor made an image to replace reality. This is the Self that never left Its home in God to walk the world uncertainly. This is the Self that knows no fear, nor could conceive of loss or suffering or death.

Make no mistake about it, this is not a doing but an undoing. It is not hard to reach God, it doesn’t take great effort. It  is not a long, hard road upward that you walk with bleeding feet, exhausted when you reach your goal. It is a letting go, a stepping back.

Nothing is required of you to reach this goal except to lay all idols and self-images aside; go past the list of attributes, both good and bad, you have ascribed to yourself; and wait in silent expectancy for the truth. God has Himself promised that it will be revealed to all who ask for it. You are asking now. You cannot fail because He cannot fail.

Ask and you shall receive. It can’t be any simpler. You can practice this lesson wherever you are, whenever you are. In the midst of chaos, you can still your mind. At work, at play, driving, singing, dancing. The truth will reveal itself to you effortlessly and fill you with light and peace and joy.

Tell yourself frequently today that you are as God created you. And be sure to respond to anyone who seems to irritate you with these words:

You are as God created you.
You are His Son eternally.

You simply let it all go, because you want to experience the truth. No trivial upset is worth disrupting your peace of mind. It always comes down to a simple question ‘Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?’ Let it all go today. Let it all be God. What is offered you is so much more than you can imagine. And when you experience it, you will realize that you want it above all else.

Light And Joy And Peace Abide In Me

lightjoypeace

You think you are the home of evil, darkness and sin. You think if anyone could see the truth about you he would be repelled, recoiling from you as if from a poisonous snake. You think if what is true about you were revealed to you, you would be struck with horror so intense that you would rush to death by your own hand, living on after seeing this being impossible.

These are beliefs so firmly fixed that it is difficult to help you see that they are based on nothing. That you have made mistakes is obvious. That you have sought salvation in strange ways; have been deceived, deceiving and afraid of foolish fantasies and savage dreams; and have bowed down to idols made of dust,–all this is true by what you now believe.

Reading the first sentences in today’s lesson, it may strike you how visual it really is. Jesus, in the New Testament, uses parables, stories and symbols you can relate to. Today he uses the visual ‘recoiling from you as if from a poisonous snake’. Look at it for a moment, see it as it is expressed. This is what you believe will happen when you express the truth of who you are. Not only that, you will be ‘struck with horror so intense’, all very negative connotations, and all equally meaningless.

Now Jesus leads you gently into this belief system that you value so dearly and he shows you what it offers you: the belief that you have made mistakes, that you are strange, deceived, deceiving and afraid, that you have let yourself be misled by idols. Looking around in this circle of littleness within your own mind, you may well ask yourself how you can get out if this belief system. You are not alone in this. Jesus is with you.

Today we question this, not from the point of view of what you think, but from a very different reference point, from which such idle thoughts are meaningless. These thoughts are not according to God’s Will. These weird beliefs He does not share with you. This is enough to prove that they are wrong, but you do not perceive that this is so.

Why would you not be overjoyed to be assured that all the evil that you think you did was never done, that all your sins are nothing, that you are as pure and holy as you were created, and that light and joy and peace abide in you Your image of yourself cannot withstand the Will of God. You think that this is death, but it is life. You think you are destroyed, but you are saved.

You are brought to zero, to the place where you let it all go. There is no belief, no judgment, no idea to hold on to. The image you hold of yourself, your identity, is not who you truly are. It is being erased, undone. You think it is death, but it is life. And the amazing thing of it is, that in this undoing, as you come to life, you realize you’re still you. This can’t be explained. You remember who you truly are, beyond this world, beyond any limited self-identity.

The self you made is not the Son of God. Therefore, this self does not exist at all. And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. It is neither bad nor good. It is unreal, and nothing more than that. It does not battle with the Son of God. It does not hurt him, nor attack his peace. It has not changed creation, nor reduced eternal sinlessness to sin, and love to hate. What power can this self you made possess, when it would contradict the Will of God?

Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Over and over this must be repeated, until it is accepted. It is true. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Nothing can touch it, or change what God created as eternal. The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.

As you read this lesson, and apply it to your mind, you start to feel the light and joy and peace it offers you. The words express the truth of you. You feel all your old ideas fall away, and new ones instantly take their place. You recognize them immediately, they are new and yet ancient. You remember them well. All this lesson offers is an undoing of your old thought system, so that the Thought of God can take its place.

Salvation requires the acceptance of but one thought;–you are as God created you, not what you made of yourself.  Whatever evil you may think you did, you are as God created you. Whatever mistakes you made, the truth about you is unchanged. Creation is eternal and unalterable. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. You are and will forever be exactly as you were created. Light and joy and peace abide in you because God put them there.

In our longer exercise periods today, which would be most profitable if done for the first five minutes of every waking hour, begin by stating the truth about your creation:

Light and joy and peace abide in me.
My sinlessness is guaranteed by God.

Then put away your foolish self-images, and spend the rest of the practice period in trying to experience what God has given you, in place of what you have decreed for yourself.

As you practice these words, let the experience be formless. Don’t try to figure out what the words mean, or what it is that you are being led to. It will reveal itself to you effortlessly if you simply step back. Say the words and let them work in you. Let them reveal their truth to you. As Jesus says in A Course In Miracles ‘resign now as your own teacher’. Be willing not to know. In that instant all knowledge can be revealed to you.

You are what God created or what you made. One Self is true; the other is not there. Try to experience the unity of your one Self. Try to appreciate Its Holiness and the love from which It was created. Try not to interfere with the Self which God created as you, by hiding Its majesty behind the tiny idols of evil and sinfulness you have made to replace It. Let It come into Its Own. Here you are; This is You. And light and joy and peace abide in you because this is so.

Miracles Are Seen In Light, And Light And Strength Are One

Miracles are seen in light

The idea for today is an extension of the previous one. You do not think of light in terms of strength, and darkness in terms of weakness. That is because your idea of what seeing means is tied up with the body and its eyes and brain. Thus you believe that you can change what you see by putting little bits of glass before your eyes. This is among the many magical beliefs that come from the conviction you are a body, and the body’s eyes can see.

You also believe the body’s brain can think. If you but understood the nature of thought, you could but laugh at this insane idea. It is as if you thought you held the match that lights the sun and gives it all its warmth; or that you held the world within your hand, securely bound until you let it go. Yet this is no more foolish than to believe the body’s eyes can see; the brain can think.

The workbook lesson for today follows the lesson ‘Miracles Are Seen In Light’. You have been shown how crucial the light is, you can’t see in darkness, and your mind is directed to find this light. Now you are asked to look at your belief that you are a body and that the body’s eyes can see, and you are shown that the body’s eyes will never see this light. You have been given a reset button for your belief that the body’s eyes can see and that the brain can think. It is not so. Let’s look a little further.

It is God’s strength in you that is the light in which you see, as it is His Mind with which you think. His strength denies your weakness. It is your weakness that sees through the body’s eyes, peering about in darkness to behold the likeness of itself; the small, the weak, the sickly and the dying, those in need, the helpless and afraid, the sad, the poor, the starving and the joyless. These are seen through eyes that cannot see and cannot bless.

Strength overlooks these things by seeing past appearances. It keeps its steady gaze upon the light that lies beyond them. It unites with light, of which it is a part. It sees itself. It brings the light in which your Self appears. In darkness you perceive a self that is not there. Strength is the truth about you; weakness is an idol falsely worshipped and adored that strength may be dispelled, and darkness rule where God appointed that there should be light.

There is a strength in you that is of God. It is your natural inheritance. This has nothing to do with the body, nothing to do with any idea of limitation. Your Identity is the grandeur that is given you by God. Beyond the body, beyond this world, beyond any idea you have of who you are and who God is, lies the truth. This is what you are directed to today. Try not to give it any form, let it be revealed to you exactly as it is.

Strength comes from truth, and shines with light its Source has given it; weakness reflects the darkness of its maker. It is sick and looks on sickness, which is like itself. Truth is a savior and can only will for happiness and peace for everyone.  It gives its strength to everyone who asks, in limitless supply. It sees that lack in anyone would be a lack in all. And so it gives its light that all may see and benefit as one. Its strength is shared, that it may bring to all the miracle in which they will unite in purpose and forgiveness and in love.

Weakness, which looks in darkness, cannot see a purpose in forgiveness and in love. It sees all others different from itself, and nothing in the world that it would share. It judges and condemns, but does not love. In darkness it remains to hide itself, and dreams that it is strong and conquering, a victor over limitations that but grow in darkness to enormous size.

It fears and it attacks and hates itself, and darkness covers everything it sees, leaving its dreams as fearful as itself. No miracles are here, but only hate. It separates itself from what it sees, while light and strength perceive themselves as one. The light of strength is not the light you see. It does not change and flicker and go out. It does not shift from night to day, and back to darkness till the morning comes again.

This is so spectacular. The strength of God has nothing to do with your limited idea of what strength is. You think of strength as victory, as a posture of puffed-upness where nothing can touch you or really affect you, yet all the while you are afraid. Real strength is defenselessness, the willingness to be zero. In that place, in a holy instant, you go past all illusions to the truth that is the strength of God in you. Beyond words, it is an experience. It is real and it is available to you right here and now.

The light of strength is constant, sure as love, forever glad to give itself away, because it cannot give but to itself. No one can ask in vain to share its sight, and none who enters its abode can leave without a miracle before his eyes, and strength and light abiding in his heart.

The strength in you will offer you the light, and guide your seeing so you do not dwell on idle shadows that the body’s eyes provide for self-deception. Strength and light unite in you, and where they meet, your Self stands ready to embrace you as Its Own. Such is the meeting place we try today to find and rest in, for the peace of God is where your Self, His Son, is waiting now to meet Itself again, and be as One.

In practicing this workbook you become so grateful for what it offers you. What is in you, given by God, you cannot lose. Once you experience it, you can always find it, no matter what the circumstance. Think of what is given you. The real law of cause and effect, the knowledge that there is nothing outside you. This is the real power of your mind. You can at any given moment, right here and right now, experience the truth of who you are.

Let us give twenty minutes twice today to join this meeting. Let yourself be brought unto your Self. Its strength will be the light in which the gift of sight is given you. Leave, then, the dark a little while today, and we will practice seeing in the light, closing the body’s eyes and asking truth to show us how to find the meeting place of self and Self, where light and strength are one.

Morning and evening we will practice thus. After the morning meeting, we will use the day in preparation for the time at night when we will meet again in trust. Let us repeat as often as we can the idea for today, and recognize that we are being introduced to sight, and led away from darkness to the light where only miracles can be perceived.

Jesus Speaks On His Physical Resurrection

He is risen indeed

My body disappeared because I had no illusion about it. The last one had gone. It was laid in the tomb, but there was nothing left to bury. It did not disintegrate because the unreal cannot die. It merely became what it always was. And that is what “rolling the stone away” means. The body disappears, and no longer hides what lies beyond. It merely ceases to interfere with vision. To roll the stone away is to see beyond the tomb, beyond death, and to understand the body’s nothingness. What is understood as nothing must disappear.

I did assume a human form with human attributes afterwards, to speak to those who were to prove the body’s worthlessness to the world. This has been much misunderstood. I came to tell them that death is illusion, and the mind that made the body can make another since form itself is an illusion. They did not understand. But now I talk to you and give you the same message. The death of an illusion  means nothing. It disappears when you awaken and decide to dream no more. And you still do have the power to make this decision as I did.

God holds out His hand to His Son to help him rise and return to Him. I can help because the world is illusion, and I have overcome the world. Look past the tomb, the body, the illusion. Have faith in nothing but the spirit and the guidance God gives you. He could not have created the body because it is a limit. He must have created the spirit because it is immortal. Can those who are created like Him be limited? The body is the symbol of the world. Leave it behind. It cannot enter Heaven. But I can take you there any time that you choose. Together we can watch the world disappear and its symbol vanish as it does so. And then, and then — I cannot speak of that.

A body can not stay without illusion and the last one to be overcome is death. This is the message of the crucifixion; There is no order of difficulties in miracles. This is the message of the resurrection: Illusions are illusions. Truth is true. Illusions vanish. Only truth remains.

These lessons needed to be taught but once, for when the stone of death is rolled away, what can be seen but an empty tomb? And that is what you see who follow me into the sunlight and away from death, past all illusions, on to Heaven’s gate, where God will come Himself to take you home.

~ Absence From Felicity

Review Lesson 86

holyweek

It is holy week, and on this day you are reviewing lessons 71 and 72. As you look at the teachings of Jesus leading up to His Resurrection, you see that the New Testament and A Course In Miracles offer the same message.

71. Only God’s plan for salvation will work.
It is senseless for me to search wildly about for salvation. I have seen it in many people and in many things, but when I reached for it, it was not there. I was mistaken about where it is. I was mistaken about what it is. I will undertake no more idle seeking. Only God’s plan for salvation will work. And I will rejoice because His plan can never fail.
These are some suggested forms for applying this idea specifically:

God’s plan for salvation will save me from my perception of this.
This is no exception in God’s plan for my salvation.
Let me perceive this only in the light of God’s plan for salvation.

This is no different than the first commandment ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength’. It’s a total commitment. Jesus’ final words before His Resurrection were, ‘Father, into Thy Hands I command my spirit’. It’s a surrender. Finally you are tired of being right about anything, you simply recognize that you need help.

72. Holding grievances is an attack on God’s plan for salvation.
Holding grievances is an attempt to prove that God’s plan for salvation will not work. Yet only His plan will work. By holding grievances, I am therefore excluding my only hope of salvation from my awareness. I would no longer defeat my own best interests in this insane way. I would accept God’s plan for salvation, and be happy.
Specific applications for this idea might be in these forms:

I am choosing between misperception and salvation as I look on this.
If I see grounds for grievances in this, I will not see the grounds for my salvation.
This calls for salvation, not attack.

Thou shalt love thy neigbor as thyself. This is the second commandment, and it is your salvation. Any grievance you have, will bind you to the world you see. Do you really want what you have made? There is another world that is available to you, another way of seeing, another way of thinking. You have to want it above all else. Ask and you shall receive. Jesus is walking with you and there is no greater time than right now to remember that He is risen and that you are risen with Him.

Review Lesson 81

Lightoftheworld

The review lessons for today are

(61) I am the light of the world.

(62) Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.

But do not miss the introduction to these lessons, because what it tells you is spectacular.

Do not allow your intent to waver in the face of distracting thoughts. Realize that, whatever form such thoughts may take, they have no meaning and no power. Replace them with your determination to succeed. Do not forget that your will has power over all fantasies and dreams. Trust it to see you through, and carry you beyond them all.

Regard these practice periods as dedications to the way, the truth and the life. Refuse to be sidetracked into detours, illusions and thoughts of death. You are dedicated to salvation. Be determined each day not to leave your function unfulfilled.

You are always directed to the power of your mind, to the peace that is available to you as created by God. This peace is not found by knowing the right people, holding on to your possessions and judgments. It is not found in any of the thoughts that you think you think, it is not found in your belief that you are a body. Let it sink in that you are mind, you are pure mind. The peace of God is in you, and as you find it in yourself, you extend it to everyone and everything. It is not a taking, or a getting, it is a giving and receiving.

I am the light of the world.

How holy am I, who have been given the function of lighting up the world! Let me be still before my holiness. In its calm light let all my conflicts disappear. In its peace let me remember Who I am.
Some specific forms for applying this idea when special difficulties seem to arise might be:

Let me not obscure the light of the world in me.
Let the light of the world shine through this appearance.
This shadow will vanish before the light.

In the introduction Jesus asks you to take about fifteen minutes for each review, to begin by thinking about the ideas for the day. It is an assignment. It is your homework for today. You read the comments slowly and then close your eyes and listen. Someone is trying to tell you something.

Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.

It is through accepting my function that I will see the light in me. And in this light will my function stand clear and perfectly unambiguous before my sight. My acceptance does not depend on my recognizing what my function is, for I do not yet understand forgiveness. Yet I will trust that, in the light, I will see it as it is.
Specific forms for using this idea might include:

Let this help me learn what forgiveness means.
Let me not separate my function from my will.
I will not use this for an alien purpose.

It is no small thing that you are being offered today. Peace and light and love are in you, and you can experience them. In the application of today’s lesson forget for a moment everything you believe, let go of all the alliances you have forged to establish yourself as a body and as successful. Allow it all to collapse in on you, in your mind, so it can resurrect in truth. You are not a body, you are free. You are as God created you. This is the truth and you can experience it here and now.

I Am Under No Laws But God’s

I am under no laws but God's

Today’s lesson is an absolute key lesson in the workbook of A Course In Miracles.

We have observed before how many senseless things have seemed to you to be salvation. Each has imprisoned you with laws as senseless as itself. You are not bound by them. Yet to understand that this is so, you must first realize salvation lies not there. While you would seek for it in things that have no meaning, you bind yourself to laws that make no sense. Thus do you seek to prove salvation is where it is not.

You are always directed to the power of your mind. Every lesson, every day, every instant, Jesus is asking you to look again at the things you value and to recognize that you bind yourself to them by your choice. To look at this does take some rigorous honesty. Where do you think your salvation lies? In looking good, in eating right, in doing the right things, in knowing the right people? Lesson 50 has already shown you that there is an endless list of forms of nothingness that you endow with magical powers. You truly believe that these things will save you, but they merely bind you to the world you see.

Today we will be glad you cannot prove it. For if you could, you would forever seek salvation where it is not, and never find it. The idea for today tells you once again how simple is salvation. Look for it where it waits for you, and there it will be found. Look nowhere else, for it is nowhere else.

The simplicity of salvation: look for it where it is, not where it isn’t. Stop trying to make the untrue true, stop giving meaning to illusions. Stop trying to tell yourself that this time it will really work. It won’t. Not really. And that is your salvation. To be directed to a place in your mind where ancient beliefs lie hidden, to have them be uncovered, and to be shown that they have no meaning, this is not for the faint of heart. The things that you have based your whole belief system on, suddenly are shaken to the core. Are you going to hold on to them now, or are you willing to let them go and see what lies beyond them?

Think of the freedom in the recognition that you are not bound by all the strange and twisted laws you have set up to save you. You really think that you would starve unless you have stacks of green paper strips and piles of metal discs. You really think a small round pellet or some fluid pushed into your veins through a sharpened needle will ward off disease and death. You really think you are alone unless another body is with you.

These are very fundamental beliefs. You have never questioned them before. But today, Jesus leads you directly to the place where you look at these beliefs and what they represent. For a moment, stand there with him, allow him to show you a new vision. Maybe there is another way. Maybe it is worth a shot. What have you got to lose?

There are no laws except the laws of God. This needs repeating, over and over, until you realize it applies to everything that you have made in opposition to God’s Will. Your magic has no meaning. What it is meant to save does not exist. Only what it is meant to hide will save you.

It really is an incredible lesson, and I invite you to read it here. Let the words sink in, let yourself be guided to a place in your mind where you know with certainty that you are under no laws but God’s. This is not about intellectual understanding, certainly you can’t be convinced of the truth of this lesson if you hold on to beliefs in limitation. It is an experience, it is given, and it is between you and God.

Let us today open God’s channels to Him, and let His Will extend through us to Him. Thus is creation endlessly increased. His Voice will speak of this to us, as well as of the joys of Heaven which His laws keep limitless forever. We will repeat today’s idea until we have listened and understood there are no laws but God’s. Then we will tell ourselves, as a dedication with which the practice period concludes:

I am under no laws but God’s.

The Light Has Come

The light has come

The light has come. You are healed and you can heal. The light has come. You are saved and you can save. You are at peace, and you bring peace with you wherever you go. Darkness and turmoil and death have disappeared. The light has come.

Today we celebrate the happy ending to your long dream of disaster. There are no dark dreams now. The light has come. Today the time of light begins for you and everyone. It is a new era, in which a new world is born. The old one has left no trace upon it in its passing. Today we see a different world, because the light has come.

How great it is to be reminded of the truth. How great that every moment, this instant, is a new beginning. How great to know the light has come.

Our exercises for today will be happy ones, in which we offer thanks for the passing of the old and the beginning of the new. No shadows from the past remain to darken our sight and hide the world forgiveness offers us. Today we will accept the new world as what we want to see. We will be given what we desire. We will to see the light; the light has come.

To know that the past has left no trace, is truly priceless. You are no longer bound by it, because you see it for what it is. It’s over and gone. You stand right in the middle of your desire, your determination, to see the light.

We do not want to see the ego’s shadow on the world today. We see the light, and in it we see Heaven’s reflection lie across the world. Begin the longer practice periods by telling yourself the glad tidings of your release:

The light has come. I have forgiven the world.

Dwell not upon the past today. Keep a completely open mind, washed of all past ideas and clean of every concept you have made. You have forgiven the world today. You can look upon it now as if you never saw it before. You do not know yet what it looks like. You merely wait to have it shown to you. While you wait, repeat several times, slowly and in complete patience:

The light has come. I have forgiven the world.

Specific instructions for today are to focus on the light. Let your mind go, it will naturally experience the light that is your true inheritance. This is who you are, this is real. And from this light you look on the world as a little child, to let it be revealed to you anew.

Realize that your forgiveness entitles you to vision. Understand that the Holy Spirit never fails to give the gift of sight to the forgiving. Believe He will not fail you now. You have forgiven the world. He will be with you as you watch and wait. He will show you what true vision sees. It is His Will, and you have joined with Him. Wait patiently for Him. He will be there. The light has come. You have forgiven the world.

Tell Him you know you cannot fail because you trust in Him. And tell yourself you wait in certainty to look upon the world He promised you. From this time forth you will see differently. Today the light has come. And you will see the world that has been promised you since time began, and in which is the end of time ensured.

This lesson is so great, because it is completely open. There is only light, all else falls away. The past: gone. The future: not here. Judgments and grievances: meaningless. Forgiveness: everything. Surrender to this moment, here and now, and place nothing upon it. Simply let it be.

The shorter practice periods, too, will be joyful reminders of your release. Remind yourself every quarter of an hour or so that today is a time for special celebration. Give thanks for mercy and the Love of God. Rejoice in the power of forgiveness to heal your sight completely. Be confident that on this day there is a new beginning. Without the darkness of the past upon your eyes, you cannot fail to see today. And what you see will be so welcome that you will gladly extend today forever.

Say, then:

The light has come. I have forgiven the world.

Should you be tempted, say to anyone who seems to pull you back into darkness:

The light has come. I have forgiven you.

We dedicate this day to the serenity in which God would have you be. Keep it in your awareness of yourself and see it everywhere today, as we celebrate the beginning of your vision and the sight of the real world, which has come to replace the unforgiven world you thought was real.

It is a day of joy and release, a day of peace and serenity. Keep your eye on the prize, the light is in you, it’s all around you, it’s everywhere you are, it’s what you are. This doesn’t take effort, you experience the light when you stop trying so hard to make true what has no truth at all. Let all things be exactly as they are, embrace every situation you are in, be open to whomever comes your way. It is possible to experience the peace of God right here and now, simply by remembering one little sentence: the light has come.

There Is No Will But God’s

Thereisnowillbutgods

The idea for today can be regarded as the central thought toward which all our exercises are directed. God’s is the only Will. When you have recognized this, you have recognized that your will is His. The belief that conflict is possible has gone. Peace has replaced the strange idea that you are torn by conflicting goals. As an expression of the Will of God, you have no goal but His.

It’s very simple, really: singular purpose. Direct your mind to the truth and conflict is impossible. The only reason for conflict, is duality. The belief that there is any such thing as ‘two’ would have to lead to conflict. There is you, and something outside of you, with which you agree or disagree. It is the idea that you are separate from everything, that you have a value in and of yourself, and that your opinions matter. For just one instant, right here and now, let go of all opinions, all judgments, stop giving value to your limited ideas about anything, and let the peace of God come into that empty space.

There is great peace in today’s idea, and the exercises for today are directed towards finding it. The idea itself is wholly true. Therefore it cannot give rise to illusions. Without illusions conflict is impossible. Let us try to recognize this today, and experience the peace this recognition brings.

This moment, right here and right now, the peace of God is available to you. It is your natural inheritance. The experience of it doesn’t take time, doesn’t take great effort, it is simply the willingness to follow instructions.

Begin the longer practice periods by repeating these thoughts several times, slowly and with firm determination to understand what they mean, and to hold them in mind:

There is no will but God’s. I cannot be in conflict.

Then spend several minutes in adding some related thoughts, such as:

I am at peace.

Nothing can disturb me. My will is God’s.

My will and God’s are one.

God wills peace for His Son.

During this introductory phase, be sure to deal quickly with any conflict thoughts that may cross your mind. Tell yourself immediately:

There is no will but God’s. These conflict thoughts are meaningless.

The ideas you practice today are not an assertion. There is nowhere in it where you say, “I want it thus”. It is a surrender, a letting go, a giving up. Finally you don’t want to be right about anything anymore, you simply want peace and happiness. And it is given you, by following a few simple steps.

If there is one conflict area that seems particularly difficult to resolve, single it out for special consideration. Think about it briefly but very specifically, identify the particular person or persons and the situation or situations involved, and tell yourself:

There is no will but God’s. I share it with Him. My conflicts about ______ cannot be real.

After you have cleared your mind in this way, close your eyes and try to experience the peace to which your reality entitles you. Sink into it and feel it closing around you. There may be some temptation to mistake these attempts for withdrawal, but the difference is easily detected. If you are succeeding, you will feel a deep sense of joy and an increased alertness, rather than a feeling of drowsiness and enervation.

The moment you let go, the moment you are willing to entertain for a moment that the thing which has preoccupied your mind, and that you have given great importance, has no reality at all, something else can happen. There is no way to define the experience, words can’t express it, but you can feel it. It is energizing and relaxing at the same time. It is the moment where all things fall into place. It is the holy instant where you recognize you are the cause of what you think and feel. It is that of which we can’t speak.

Joy characterizes peace. By this experience will you recognize that you have reached it. If you feel yourself slipping off into withdrawal, quickly repeat the idea for today and try again. Do this as often as necessary. There is definite gain in refusing to allow retreat into withdrawal, even if you do not experience the peace you seek.

It takes some vigilance, a determination not to fall asleep again. You have the power to say, “Not this.” You are not a victim of what you think or feel or do, or of whatever seems to happen to you. Your thoughts about anything have no reality, and you can direct your mind to an experience of peace and joy simply by repeating the lesson today and letting it work in you.

In the shorter periods, which should be undertaken at regular and predetermined intervals today, say to yourself:

There is no will but God’s. I seek His peace today.

Then try to find what you are seeking. A minute or two every half an hour, with eyes closed if possible, would be well spent on this today.

I Will There Be Light

I will there be light

Looking at today’s lesson, there is a word that stands out: will. I will there be light. It doesn’t say I want there be light, it is far more powerful than that. To say I will there be light is an expression of the will you share with God, it is an acknowledgement of the power of your mind. Look at it for a moment, the words are chosen carefully and purposefully.

Today we are considering the will you share with God. This is not the same as the ego’s idle wishes, out of which darkness and nothingness arise. The will you share with God has all the power of creation in it. The ego’s idle wishes are unshared, and therefore have no power at all. Its wishes are not idle in the sense that they can make a world of illusions in which your belief can be very strong. But they are idle indeed in terms of creation. They make nothing that is real.

Will. Power. Creation. As you let the words sink in, it starts to dawn on you that you may not be the little persona that you have endowed yourself with. You look around you and see how meaningless everything is, as you experience the magnitude of the power that is in our own mind. This is a real experience. It has nothing to do with a situation, a person, a circumstance, it is simply the recognition of your Self as you were created by God.

Idle wishes and grievances are partners or co-makers in picturing the world you see. The wishes of the ego gave rise to it, and the ego’s need for grievances, which are necessary to maintain it, peoples it with figures that seem to attack you and call for “righteous” judgment. These figures become the middlemen the ego employs to traffic in grievances. They stand between your awareness and your brothers’ reality. Beholding them, you do not know your brothers or your Self.

Your will is lost to you in this strange bartering, in which guilt is traded back and forth, and grievances increase with each exchange. Can such a world have been created by the Will the Son of God shares with his Father? Did God create disaster for His Son? Creation is the Will of Both together. Would God create a world that kills Himself?

Bartering… the idea of this and that, and the belief in exchange. If you believe truth and illusions can co-exist, you will think you go from one to the other, trying to decide for yourself which one is which, but never completely letting go. There is a place in you that goes beyond judgment altogether, beyond grievances, a place where you experience the truth of you. It is like a breath of fresh air, as you drop the burden of  anger, judgment, grievances and pain. This has nothing to do with intellect, because it has nothing to do with information gathered in the past on which you base your future. It is always only here and now, completely beyond the form, beyond time and space, beyond the body.

Today we will try once more to reach the world that is in accordance with your will. The light is in it because it does not oppose the Will of God. It is not Heaven, but the light of Heaven shines on it. Darkness has vanished. The ego’s idle wishes have been withdrawn. Yet the light that shines upon this world reflects your will, and so it must be in you that we will look for it.

Your picture of the world can only mirror what is within. The source of neither light nor darkness can be found without. Grievances darken your mind, and you look out on a darkened world. Forgiveness lifts the darkness, reasserts your will, and lets you look upon a world of light. We have repeatedly emphasized that the barrier of grievances is easily passed, and cannot stand between you and your salvation. The reason is very simple. Do you really want to be in hell? Do you really want to weep and suffer and die?

These are real questions, answer them within your own mind. What do you want? The choice is yours. But there is no compromise between truth and illusion. Truth is a total commitment, as you leave all illusions behind. Forgiveness is a total commitment, since it does you no good to forgive some things, but hold on to others. All illusions are equally binding, and they tie you to the world you see, the world of pain, sickness and death. But you can let it go.

We will succeed today if you remember that you want salvation for yourself. You want to accept God’s plan because you share in it. You have no will that can really oppose it, and you do not want to do so. Salvation is for you. Above all else, you want the freedom to remember Who you really are. Today it is the ego that stands powerless before your will. Your will is free, and nothing can prevail against it.

Decide for truth and everything falls into place. You don’t need to know how, you simply do the little that is asked of you. Jesus gives you very specific instructions today, all you have to do is follow them. Then… of that we can’t speak. Truly. Because it is an experience and it is between you and God.

I will there be light. Let me behold the light that reflects God’s Will and mine.

I will there be light. Darkness is not my will.
