Review Lesson 55

The practicality of the first 50 workbook lessons is truly amazing. Apply them to anything you encounter, and what is offered you is something that goes beyond practical altogether. You are literally offered a holy instant, revelation, vision, communication between you and God. This can’t really be expressed in words, it is an experience. As Jesus says in the first chapters of A Course In Miracles “Revelation is intensely personal and cannot be meaningfully translated. That is why any attempt to describe it in words is impossible. Revelation induces only experience.” And as you apply the review lesson for today, you catch a glimpse of the infinite possibility that is offered you right here and right now.

I am determined to see things differently.
What I see now are but signs of disease, disaster and death. This cannot be what God created for His beloved Son. The very fact that I see such things is proof that I do not understand God. Therefore I also do not understand His Son. What I see tells me that I do not know who I am. I am determined to see the witnesses to the truth in me, rather than those which show me an illusion of myself.

What I see is a form of vengeance.
The world I see is hardly the representation of loving thoughts. It is a picture of attack on everything by everything. It is anything but a reflection of the Love of God and the love of His Son. It is my own attack thoughts that give rise to this picture. My loving thoughts will save me from this perception of the world, and give me the peace God intended me to have.

I can escape from this world by giving up attack thoughts.
Herein lies salvation, and nowhere else. Without attack thoughts I could not see a world of attack. As forgiveness allows love to return to my awareness, I will see a world of peace and safety and joy. And it is this I choose to see, in place of what I look on now.

I do not perceive my own best interests.
How could I recognize my own best interests when I do not know who I am? What I think are my best interests would merely bind me closer to the world of illusions. I am willing to follow the Guide God has given me to find out what my own best interests are, recognizing that I cannot perceive them by myself.

I do not know what anything is for.
To me, the purpose of everything is to prove that my illusions about myself are real. It is for this purpose that I attempt to use everyone and everything. It is for this that I believe the world is for. Therefore I do not recognize its real purpose. The purpose I have given the world has led to a frightening picture of it. Let me open my mind to the world’s real purpose by withdrawing the one I have given it, and learning the truth about it.

Pick any of these reviews, and it will work. There might be one that speaks to you more than another, use it. Apply it. Remind yourself often today of what is offered you. This is not about relying on your own feeble strength and interpretation, something is offered you that goes entirely beyond any limitation. It is the only thing that makes you truly happy. It is the only thing you truly want.

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day

It is quite possible to listen to God’s Voice all through the day without interrupting your regular activities in any way.  The part of your mind in which truth abides is in constant communication with God, whether you are aware of it or not. It is the other part of your mind that functions in the world and obeys the world’s laws. It is this part that is constantly distracted, disorganized and highly uncertain.

This is the amazing part about A Course In Miracles: it actually tells you that you can hear God’s Voice no matter where you are and no matter what you are doing. He is always available to you. This goes beyond the idea of prayer in a church, beyond any idea of absolute concentration to reach God, He is here with you right now and you can hear Him effortlessly. There is a part of your mind that is in communication with its Creator every instant, right now, but you simply haven’t been aware of it. You haven’t paid attention. You were preoccupying your mind with rules and regulations that the world tells you you need to obey. Your mind was filled with thoughts about things that have no reality or meaning. You have been distracted, disorganized and uncertain. But today you are making a new decision, you are reminding yourself of your total communication with your Father.

The part that is listening to the Voice for God is calm, always at rest and wholly certain. It is really the only part there is. The other part is a wild illusion, frantic and distraught, but without reality of any kind. Try today not to listen to it.  Try to identify with the part of your mind where stillness and peace reign forever. Try to hear God’s Voice call to you lovingly, reminding you that your Creator has not forgotten His Son.

It’s a change of focus. Today you are not focusing on the world and its noises, but you are focusing on God. You are paying attention to His Voice. That is all that is required.

Listen in deep silence. Be very still and open your mind. Go past all the raucous shrieks and sick imaginings that cover your real thoughts and obscure your eternal link with God. Sink deep into the peace that waits for you beyond the frantic, riotous thoughts and sights and sounds of this insane world. You do not live here. We are trying to reach your real home. We are trying to reach the place where you are truly welcome. We are trying to reach God.

It’s the holiest of purposes, it is what you are. No matter where you seem to find yourself, you can listen. You can be at work and take a moment to remember.

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

You can be at home with your children, it can be frantic and chaotic, but you can remember.

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

You can be driving in your car, waiting for a traffic light.

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

No matter what the scenario is, you can remember. It is up to you. Take a moment today, whenever you remember, right now, and remind yourself of your Father and His Voice. There is a place in you where you can hear Him perfectly well. How could you not? He created you. He speaks to you. Listen today.
