Review Lesson 120

I rest in God

The beauty of today’s review lesson is the peace and rest it offers. In you is a place of respite from the world you see, a quiet place that is the altar of God, your natural inheritance that is your complete dependence on your Creator. These lessons are not just words that you repeat to yourself in the morning and that make you feel good for a moment, after which you continue getting lost in the turmoil of your existence in time and space. They are not concepts which you are asked to intellectually understand and then lay aside. These words offer you a real experience, if you let them.

(109) I rest in God.

I rest in God today, and let Him work in me and
through me, while I rest in Him in quiet and in
perfect certainty.

(110) I am as God created me.

I am God’s Son. Today I lay aside all sick illusions of
myself, and let my Father tell me Who I really am.

You have to, somewhere, want more than just a flimsy moment of feeling good. God’s will for you is perfect happiness, and perfect happiness has nothing to do with time and space, nothing to do with a body, nothing to do with this world. It is an experience of remembering who you truly are, and it is given by God as you direct your mind to the truth of the words you speak today. Once you have this experience, it is something you can always go back to when you forget. As Jesus tells you in the introduction to these lessons:

In these reviews, we stress the need to let your learning not lie idly by between your longer practice periods.  Attempt to give your daily two ideas a brief but serious review each hour.  Use one on the hour, and the other one a half an hour later.  You need not give more than just a moment to each one.  Repeat it, and allow your mind to rest a little time in silence and in peace.  Then turn to other things, but try to keep the thought with you, and let it serve to help you keep your peace throughout the day as well.

If you are shaken, think of it again.  These practice periods are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.  Do not repeat the thought and lay it down.  Its usefulness is limitless to you.  And it is meant to serve you in all ways, all times and places, and whenever you need help of any kind.  Try, then, to take it with you in the business of the day and make it holy, worthy of God’s Son, acceptable to God and to your Self.

It is a practice, this is why it is called a mind training. The workbook lessons help you to keep your mind focused on God, they offer you a frame of reference for the truth in you, but the application of the lesson is up to you. The more you offer this Course, the more it offers you. The more you apply your mind to it, the more you experience the simplicity and effortlessness of remembering Who you are. There is an experience available to you that goes beyond the world you see altogether, and it is this you truly want.

Do not forget how little you have learned.
Do not forget how much you can learn now.
Do not forget your Father’s need of you,
As you review these thoughts He gave to you.

On the hour:
I rest in God.

On the half hour:
I am as God created me.

Review Lesson 56

angeltrumpet

A Course In Miracles is really the only book where the Introduction and the Review are just as incredible as the text and workbook lessons themselves. Every word is inspirational, every line offers you an experience beyond this world, beyond time and space. As you allow these reviews to work in you, you start to recognize what you are being offered. And you feel grateful.

My attack thoughts are attacking my invulnerability.
How can I know who I am when I see myself as under constant attack? Pain, illness, loss, age and death seem to threaten me. All my hopes and wishes and plans appear to be at the mercy of a world I cannot control. Yet perfect security and complete fulfillment are my inheritance. I have tried to give my inheritance away in exchange for the world I see. But God has kept my inheritance safe for me. My own real thoughts will teach me what it is.

Above all else I want to see.
Recognizing that what I see reflects what I think I am, I realize that vision is my greatest need. The world I see attests to the fearful nature of the self-image I have made. If I would remember who I am, it is essential that I let this image of myself go. As it is replaced by truth, vision will surely be given me. And with this vision, I will look upon the world and on myself with charity and love.

Above all else I want to see differently.
The world I see holds my fearful self-image in place, and guarantees its continuance. While I see the world as I see it now, truth cannot enter my awareness. I would let the door behind this world be opened for me, that I may look past it to the world that reflects the Love of God.

God is in everything I see.
Behind every image I have made, the truth remains unchanged. Behind every veil I have drawn across the face of love, its light remains undimmed. Beyond all my insane wishes is my will, united with the Will of my Father. God is still everywhere and in everything forever. And we who are part of Him will yet look past all appearances, and recognize the truth beyond them all.

God is in everything I see because God is in my mind.
In my own mind, behind all my insane thoughts of separation and attack, is the knowledge that all is one forever. I have not lost the knowledge of Who I am because I have forgotten it. It has been kept for me in the Mind of God, Who has not left His Thoughts. And I, who am among them, am one with them and one with Him.

The lessons work perfectly in and of themselves. Read them and feel them working in you. Everything you need is given you. And if you like to listen to the daily lessons, I invite you to go to Spreaker Radio. Every day a teacher of A Course In Miracles reads the lesson and offers the total experience of it. The website is free and offers you every opportunity to listen, learn and do.

If I Am Bound, My Father Is Not Free

Today’s lesson shows you the power of your mind and makes you look at how you bind everything when you choose not to be free. But what is freedom? It doesn’t have anything to do with your ideas about it. You think that freedom is doing whatever you want, or finding a safe haven in a world of chaos. But ultimately freedom is the recognition that you are as God created you, that you are mind and pure mind, and that the world you think is real has nothing to do with reality.

If I accept that I am prisoner within a body, in a world in which all things that seem to live appear to die, then is my Father prisoner with me. And this do I believe, when I maintain the laws the world obeys must I obey; the frailties and the sins which I perceive are real, and cannot be escaped. If I am bound in any way, I do not know my Father nor my Self. And I am lost to all reality. For truth is free, and what is bound is not a part of truth.

It does start with the simple statement, “Not this.” You have to somewhere deny pain, sickness and death as your reality, or you will be bound forever by your ideas about them. It is not about denying the world’s laws but still maintaining the world is real. It is not about recklessly driving through a red traffic light or robbing a store simply because you need money. It is about denying this world of pain, sickness and death in its totality and, at least in your mind, saying “Enough of that, I want to know that I am as God created me.” And that declaration is completely up to you.

Father, I ask for nothing but the truth. I have had many foolish thoughts about myself and my creation, and have brought a dream of fear into my mind. Today, I would not dream. I choose the way to You instead of madness and instead of fear. For truth is safe, and only love is sure.

This is a beautiful prayer from you to your Father. It has nothing to do with the world, nothing to do with anybody else, it is extremely personal. This is where you go into your closet, into your mind, and you are honest with yourself. What do you want? Do you want the truth? It is here now. Be willing to stop for a moment, use the lesson for today, and you will recognize an experience beyond this world lies waiting for you, right here and right now.

The Glory Of My Father Is My Own

Today’s lesson is a gem. The offering that is made to you, to recognize the Glory of God in yourself, is something that is truly a miracle. What is there in the world that reminds you of your Self? Until A Course In Miracles came to you, all you could see was a reflection of an illusion of what you are. And now you are offered a glimpse of truth, and you are shown that what you were looking for is already in you.

Let not the truth about ourselves today be hidden by a false humility. Let us instead be thankful for the gifts our Father gave us. Can we see in those with whom He shares His glory any trace of sin and guilt? And can it be that we are not among them, when He loves His Son forever and with perfect constancy, knowing he is as He created him?

What you choose to see is up to you. Perception is an amazing device, when used for Truth. You can look around you and see corruption, or you can ask to see things differently. There is another way of looking at the world. There is another way of looking at your neighbor. There is another way to experience yourself. Your Self. Once you are in this new experience, you will never want anything else. Because it is completely valuable to you. You know who you are. Your certainty is of God. And in that experience, when someone comes to you to invite you back into the illusion, you will respond, “No, thank you very much.”

The experience of Who you are is an awareness. A knowing that is synonymous to the Peace of God. It is a sigh of relief. A feeling of Home. It is all you have been looking for. And today, now, it is offered you.

We thank You, Father, for the light that shines forever in us. And we honor it, because You share it with us. We are one, united in this light and one with You, at peace with all creation and ourselves.

It Is Impossible To See Two Worlds

Today’s lesson is absolutely amazing. It shows you that you have to make a choice as to which world you want to see.

The World I See Holds Nothing That I Want.
Beyond This World There Is A World I Want.
It Is Impossible To See Two Worlds.

I remember when I first was shown that there is another world, beyond the one that I perceived and felt I was stuck in. To me the world felt like a bubble that was all-encompassing. It consisted of ideas, emotions, guilt, a sense of responsibility, sadness, depression and an overall feeling of imprisonment in my body. When I fully realized the impossibility of my situation, I started asking for help. I didn’t ask anyone in particular at the time, having lost all my faith in God. But I knew, from somewhere deep within, that there was a greater Power, something that could hear me and help me. And so I asked for help to get out of my bubble. That was my prayer.

When the answer came there was no denying it. It took the form of A Course In Miracles. My gratitude for this book was, and is, beyond words. I started reading it immediately and didn’t put it down. I read it on the way to work, did the lessons dutyfully as I was told, read it on the way home from work, and when I got home. I had an insatiable hunger for what it was telling me. Every sentence was underlined. And I heard it when I was told that there is another world, that I am not a body, that in fact the world that I seemed to find myself in had nothing to do with reality.

It is impossible to see two worlds which have no overlap of any kind. Seek for the one; the other disappears. But one remains. They are the range of choice beyond which your decision cannot go. The real and the unreal are all there are to choose between, and nothing more than these.

The amazement is really when you discover that your revelations, when you start to see, has really nothing to do with you. That it happens despite you. You don’t know exactly where or when it happens, but suddenly you are different. You see things differently. And your ‘old world’ seems alien to you. Things are stripped away from you, but don’t feel like loss. You simply don’t need them anymore.

So today, standing in your personal revelation, that is between you and God, all you need to remember is:

It is impossible to see two worlds. Let me accept the strength God offers me and see no value in this world, that I may find my freedom and deliverance.

That is all. Your little willingness to say these words, to ask for something beyond this world, is all that is required. God will take the next step. This is how immaculate your awakening is. Let it be extremely personal, trust in God, and let it be miraculous and out of this world.

I do not know what anything is for

In practicing today’s lesson you might ask yourself, “What is the ego?” It is a really good question and it is answered in your Course In Miracles – the Clarification of Terms.

What is the ego? But a dream of what you really are. A thought you are apart from your Creator and a wish to be what He created not. It is a thing of madness, not reality at all. A name for namelessness is all it is. A symbol of impossibility; a choice for options that do not exist. We name it but to help us understand that it is nothing but an ancient thought that what is made has immortality. But what could come of this except a dream which, like all dreams, can only end in death?

The ego is but a dream, a thought that you could be apart from God, a wish that you could be as God did not create you. It is an illusion. The ego is you as you call yourself by name, as an identity walking around in a world with separate bodies. This is not reality. There is something beyond that, and what you truly are has in fact nothing to do with the ego whatsoever.

In order for you to experience that you have to be willing to open your mind, you have to be willing to question every value that you hold. You, as you see yourself now, are not real. You are in an experience of pain, sickness and death, and this has nothing to do with God. Beyond that is the truth of what you are and it is recognized in a moment of stillness, a moment of openness. The miracle is that this recognition takes no time at all. It happens in an instant. But you can choose to delay, and you get the result of that. You will try out many roads to God, and only when they have all failed will you be willing to try something that you have no reference for.

Purpose is meaning. Today’s idea explains why nothing you see means anything. You do not know what it is for.  Therefore, it is meaningless to you. Everything is for your own best interests. That is what it is for; that is its purpose; that is what it means. It is in recognizing this that your goals become unified. It is in recognizing this that what you see is given meaning.

You perceive the world and everything in it as meaningful in terms of ego goals. These goals have nothing to do with your own best interests, because the ego is not you. This false identification makes you incapable of understanding what anything is for. As a result, you are bound to misuse it. When you believe this, you will try to withdraw the goals you have assigned to the world, instead of attempting to reinforce them.

It’s the willingness to question everything this world has to offer, every law that it holds and that you have valued as true. It’s the willingness to look at everything anew and to remind yourself that you don’t know what anything is for. It’s the willingness to be born again, to be as a little child that listens to the Holy Spirit for guidance. Be willing not to know anything today, and to let things be revealed to you. Look at the world as if you have never seen it before, meet your brother as if you are meeting him for the first time. Let all things be brand new and you will experience how everything changes every moment through the change of your mind. Nothing is bound unless you bind it to a definition. Everything you see, everyone you meet, is trying to tell you something. It might be time for you to actually listen.

My mind is preoccupied with past thoughts

This idea is, of course, the reason why you see only the past. No one really sees anything. 3 He sees only his thoughts projected outward. The mind’s preoccupation with the past is the cause of the misconception about time from which your seeing suffers. Your mind cannot grasp the present, which is the only time there is. It therefore cannot understand time, and cannot, in fact, understand anything.

This is gentle Jesus reminding you that you do not understand anything. It is amazing how such a gentle tone, such beautiful words, can express an immediate truth and experience. It hits you right in the face, which just shows you that you don’t need to raise your voice to make a point. Truth is true and nothing else is true. When true words are spoken or written, you recognize them immediately, they resonate in you, it is cellular experience. Hearing the truth raises the frequency in you, everything starts vibrating at a higher level, you are more alert, more open. Your understanding is not required. It is simply an experience.

The one wholly true thought one can hold about the past is that it is not here. To think about it at all is therefore to think about illusions. Very few have realized what is actually entailed in picturing the past or in anticipating the future. The mind is actually blank when it does this, because it is not really thinking about anything.

The past is not here. That’s reasonable; you know this to be true. Then look at where Jesus takes your mind and it will be perfectly clear to you. You already know this, He is just reminding you. It’s not complicated, it takes no study. It is simply an immediate recognition. When you think about the past, you are not thinking about anything. Now you might want to decide that you want to use your mind differently and today’s lesson is just the tool for that.

The purpose of the exercises for today is to begin to train your mind to recognize when it is not really thinking at all.  While thoughtless ideas preoccupy your mind, the truth is blocked. Recognizing that your mind has been merely blank, rather than believing that it is filled with real ideas, is the first step to opening the way to vision.

I seem to be thinking about [name of a person], about [name of an object], about [name of an emotion], but my mind is preoccupied with past thoughts.

You are not really thinking about what you think you are thinking about. You are simply reliving the past, over and over and over again. You have done this every moment of every day. But no more. Today you will see things differently and you are in the happy recognition that you are in an awakening experience. What a miracle. There is no mistake about you finding A Course In Miracles, this book was brought to you because somewhere and somehow you asked for help. The help was given. Now it is up to you to use it, to stand in the active experience of it. It is indeed a whole new year, because you have decided to actually do the workbook of A Course In Miracles. It is the best decision you have ever made for yourself. It is the greatest gift that you have ever been given.

My mind is preoccupied with past thoughts.

These thoughts do not mean anything. They are like the things I see.

Transfer of training in true perception does not proceed as does transfer of the training of the world. If true perception has been achieved in connection with any person, situation or event, total transfer to everyone and everything is certain. On the other hand, one exception held apart from true perception makes its accomplishments anywhere impossible.

In the practice of the lesson it is good to go back to the Introduction for a moment. Sentences like the above are the essence of A Course In Miracles. Don’t try to understand it, don’t try to explain it, simply accept it. Your experience of true perception transfers to everyone and everything. That is because you are connected with everyone and everything. That is because everything you see is really just you. Go figure.

Today you are going inward, you are looking at your thoughts. That is where the change happens, it is in your mind and in your mind only. Every thought you have about someone or something, actually has nothing to do with that someone or something. It is enough to know that it is your thought. It is being thought in your mind. You are responsible. Here is where a change can occur.

You will find, if you train yourself to look at your thoughts, that they represent such a mixture that, in a sense, none of them can be called “good” or “bad.” This is why they do not mean anything.

Do not be afraid to use “good” thoughts as well as “bad.” None of them represents your real thoughts, which are being covered up by them. The “good” ones are but shadows of what lies beyond, and shadows make sight difficult. The “bad” ones are blocks to sight, and make seeing impossible. You do not want either.

Real change can only happen in your mind, and it is your decision. The mind training that A Course In Miracles offers you is a total dedication. You can’t do this half way. Total dedication offers you a total experience. If you want that experience, the choice is clear. If you are wondering why you are not having an experience, it is because you are not willing to follow Jesus’ simple instructions in this course. Apply the lesson today, just do it. You don’t have to understand it, you don’t have to try to grasp what it is you are doing. In your not-knowing is everything revealed to you. Today, be willing to accept that your thoughts do not mean anything.

These thoughts do not mean anything. They are like the things I see in this room [on this street, from this window, in this place].

Sickness is but another name for sin. Healing is but another name for God. The miracle is thus a call to Him.

Wow. Great lesson for today. The titles of the lessons are incredible and speak to you of things beyond your understanding. A Course In Miracles is not like any course in the world, your understanding is not required. It is only the little willingness to let the words speak to you, to let an ancient knowing and sense of peace rise to the surface. Beyond all your worries, all your plans and thoughts, lies the knowledge of your oneness with God. It is this you ask to experience today.

Father, You promised You would never fail to answer any call Your Son might make to You. It does not matter where he is, what seems to be his problem, nor what he believes he has become. He is Your Son, and You will answer him.  The miracle reflects Your Love, and thus it answers him. Your Name replaces every thought of sin, and who is sinless cannot suffer pain. Your Name gives answer to Your Son, because to call Your Name is but to call his own.

The fact is, God is with you now. He has always been with you. Reading the lesson for today, letting it sink into you, you can feel that healing is but another name for God. Healing is available to you right here and now. Simply ask for it and let God show you the way. You are not a body, you are free. Your mind is all-powerful and what you ask for you receive. This season let the memory of Jesus return to your mind, let His message resound in you and allow it to be extended through you. Jesus is you. You are resurrected with Him. He is with you now, leading you every step of the way, telling you that His experience is yours. You were born in a manger and are now standing up and declaring your saviorship. It is your function. All that is left for you now is to give your experience away, to share your Awakening. There are those that are waiting for you to fulfill your function. Their salvation is yours. Shine your light today, don’t hide it under a bushel. Let it shine from the mountaintop. Wherever you go, whatever you seem to be doing, your light takes care of everything, because it is the light of God.
