Review Lesson 120

I rest in God

The beauty of today’s review lesson is the peace and rest it offers. In you is a place of respite from the world you see, a quiet place that is the altar of God, your natural inheritance that is your complete dependence on your Creator. These lessons are not just words that you repeat to yourself in the morning and that make you feel good for a moment, after which you continue getting lost in the turmoil of your existence in time and space. They are not concepts which you are asked to intellectually understand and then lay aside. These words offer you a real experience, if you let them.

(109) I rest in God.

I rest in God today, and let Him work in me and
through me, while I rest in Him in quiet and in
perfect certainty.

(110) I am as God created me.

I am God’s Son. Today I lay aside all sick illusions of
myself, and let my Father tell me Who I really am.

You have to, somewhere, want more than just a flimsy moment of feeling good. God’s will for you is perfect happiness, and perfect happiness has nothing to do with time and space, nothing to do with a body, nothing to do with this world. It is an experience of remembering who you truly are, and it is given by God as you direct your mind to the truth of the words you speak today. Once you have this experience, it is something you can always go back to when you forget. As Jesus tells you in the introduction to these lessons:

In these reviews, we stress the need to let your learning not lie idly by between your longer practice periods.  Attempt to give your daily two ideas a brief but serious review each hour.  Use one on the hour, and the other one a half an hour later.  You need not give more than just a moment to each one.  Repeat it, and allow your mind to rest a little time in silence and in peace.  Then turn to other things, but try to keep the thought with you, and let it serve to help you keep your peace throughout the day as well.

If you are shaken, think of it again.  These practice periods are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.  Do not repeat the thought and lay it down.  Its usefulness is limitless to you.  And it is meant to serve you in all ways, all times and places, and whenever you need help of any kind.  Try, then, to take it with you in the business of the day and make it holy, worthy of God’s Son, acceptable to God and to your Self.

It is a practice, this is why it is called a mind training. The workbook lessons help you to keep your mind focused on God, they offer you a frame of reference for the truth in you, but the application of the lesson is up to you. The more you offer this Course, the more it offers you. The more you apply your mind to it, the more you experience the simplicity and effortlessness of remembering Who you are. There is an experience available to you that goes beyond the world you see altogether, and it is this you truly want.

Do not forget how little you have learned.
Do not forget how much you can learn now.
Do not forget your Father’s need of you,
As you review these thoughts He gave to you.

On the hour:
I rest in God.

On the half hour:
I am as God created me.

Review Lesson 86

holyweek

It is holy week, and on this day you are reviewing lessons 71 and 72. As you look at the teachings of Jesus leading up to His Resurrection, you see that the New Testament and A Course In Miracles offer the same message.

71. Only God’s plan for salvation will work.
It is senseless for me to search wildly about for salvation. I have seen it in many people and in many things, but when I reached for it, it was not there. I was mistaken about where it is. I was mistaken about what it is. I will undertake no more idle seeking. Only God’s plan for salvation will work. And I will rejoice because His plan can never fail.
These are some suggested forms for applying this idea specifically:

God’s plan for salvation will save me from my perception of this.
This is no exception in God’s plan for my salvation.
Let me perceive this only in the light of God’s plan for salvation.

This is no different than the first commandment ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength’. It’s a total commitment. Jesus’ final words before His Resurrection were, ‘Father, into Thy Hands I command my spirit’. It’s a surrender. Finally you are tired of being right about anything, you simply recognize that you need help.

72. Holding grievances is an attack on God’s plan for salvation.
Holding grievances is an attempt to prove that God’s plan for salvation will not work. Yet only His plan will work. By holding grievances, I am therefore excluding my only hope of salvation from my awareness. I would no longer defeat my own best interests in this insane way. I would accept God’s plan for salvation, and be happy.
Specific applications for this idea might be in these forms:

I am choosing between misperception and salvation as I look on this.
If I see grounds for grievances in this, I will not see the grounds for my salvation.
This calls for salvation, not attack.

Thou shalt love thy neigbor as thyself. This is the second commandment, and it is your salvation. Any grievance you have, will bind you to the world you see. Do you really want what you have made? There is another world that is available to you, another way of seeing, another way of thinking. You have to want it above all else. Ask and you shall receive. Jesus is walking with you and there is no greater time than right now to remember that He is risen and that you are risen with Him.

My Salvation Comes From Me

Clouds can't stop you

All temptation is nothing more than some form of the basic temptation not to believe the idea for today. Salvation seems to come from anywhere except from you. So, too, does the source of guilt. You see neither guilt nor salvation as in your own mind and nowhere else. When you realize that all guilt is solely an invention of your mind, you also realize that guilt and salvation must be in the same place. In understanding this you are saved.

Today you are directed to the power of your mind. It’s a tricky thing, because using the power of your mind does not mean that you use magic to change the form of the world you are dreaming into one you like. Recognizing the power of your mind means that you recognize causation. Guilt and salvation are both in your mind, the problem and the answer are both in your mind. In understanding this, time and space collapse completely.

The seeming cost of accepting today’s idea is this: It means that nothing outside yourself can save you; nothing outside yourself can give you peace. But it also means that nothing outside yourself can hurt you, or disturb your peace or upset you in any way. Today’s idea places you in charge of the universe, where you belong because of what you are. This is not a role that can be partially accepted. And you must surely begin to see that accepting it is salvation.

Today’s idea is true in every way. You can’t be saved by something outside of you, you can’t be hurt by something outside of you. The first one you like, the second one you find hard to believe. You have overlearned the idea that there are things outside of you, and that the emotions that ensue from actions and situations are not caused by you. You have forgotten the power of your mind. You are the dreamer of the dream. You are the cause.

It may not, however, be clear to you why the recognition that guilt is in your own mind entails the realization that salvation is there as well. God would not have put the remedy for the sickness where it cannot help. That is the way your mind has worked, but hardly His. He wants you to be healed, so He has kept the Source of healing where the need for healing lies.

You have tried to do just the opposite, making every attempt, however distorted and fantastic it might be, to separate healing from the sickness for which it was intended, and thus keep the sickness. Your purpose was to ensure that healing did not occur. God’s purpose was to ensure that it did.

Looking at this, you may begin to realize that how you have been dealing with your body may not be the way to go. The remedies you use to cure any sickness you perceive, actually do not heal, they simply deal with the symptoms. This doesn’t mean that you won’t use any remedy, but it does mean that you look inside your mind and ask yourself if you want healing. Letting go of sickness, you have to look at the value and importance that you give to the idea of sickness itself. The fear that comes with it, the inevitable outcome of death always looking over your shoulder. The belief that you are a body is powerful indeed, it has been overlearned.

Perhaps there is another way of looking at this. Perhaps there is a God that is all loving, Perhaps you are not a body. Perhaps… there is a solution in your mind, waiting for you to find it. This is what is offered you today. It goes far beyond any idea you can conceive of. This is the fun part.

Today we practice realizing that God’s Will and ours are really the same in this. God wants us to be healed, and we do not really want to be sick, because it makes us unhappy. Therefore, in accepting the idea for today, we are really in agreement with God. He does not want us to be sick. Neither do we. He wants us to be healed. So do we.

Begin these practice periods by repeating the idea for today, adding a statement signifying your recognition that salvation comes from nothing outside of you. You might put it this way:

My salvation comes from me. It cannot come from anywhere else.

Then devote a few minutes, with your eyes closed, to reviewing some of the external places where you have looked for salvation in the past;–in other people, in possessions, in various situations and events, and in self-concepts that you sought to make real. Recognize that it is not there, and tell yourself:

My salvation cannot come from any of these things.
My salvation comes from me and only from me.

Now we will try again to reach the light in you, which is where your salvation is. You cannot find it in the clouds that surround the light, and it is in them you have been looking for it. It is not there. It is past the clouds and in the light beyond. Remember that you will have to go through the clouds before you can reach the light. But remember also that you have never found anything in the cloud patterns you imagined that endured, or that you wanted.

There is a light available to you that is of God. It has nothing to do with this world. A dear friend once reminded me of this, “All you have to do is let the light in.” It is really that simple. This may be a  moment of fear, but remember that God is Love. Take a deep breath, let it all go. The light will find you of itself. And if you find it difficult to let this light in, repeat the lesson for today. Experience the help that is given you.

Since all illusions of salvation have failed you, surely you do not want to remain in the clouds, looking vainly for idols there, when you could so easily walk on into the light of real salvation. Try to pass the clouds by whatever means appeals to you. If it helps you, think of me holding your hand and leading you. And I assure you this will be no idle fantasy.

This is Jesus speaking to you. He is walking with you. He is not some figure from an old book, idolized and admired, that resurrected and disappeared, leaving you behind. He is with you now. He is reminding you that His resurrection is your resurrection. He is inviting you to walk with Him, to remember. He loves you with a never-ending love. This is a real experience. Let Him help you walk through the clouds. You do not walk alone. All the help is given you, and it is given you right now.

My Happiness And My Function Are One

Happiness and function

You have surely noticed an emphasis throughout our recent lessons on the connection between fulfilling your function and achieving happiness. This is because you do not really see the connection. Yet there is more than just a connection between them; they are the same. Their forms are different, but their content is completely one.

The ego does constant battle with the Holy Spirit on the fundamental question of what your function is. So does it do constant battle with the Holy Spirit about what your happiness is. It is not a two-way battle. The ego attacks and the Holy Spirit does not respond. He knows what your function is. He knows that it is your happiness.

Today we will try to go past this wholly meaningless battle and arrive at the truth about your function. We will not engage in senseless arguments about what it is. We will not become hopelessly involved in defining happiness and determining the means for achieving it. We will not indulge the ego by listening to its attacks on truth. We will merely be glad that we can find out what truth is.

When Jesus mentions the ego in A Course In Miracles, he is really referring to your limited idea about yourself. The ego is you, as you see yourself separate from God and from everything. Every time you turn to your meaningless thoughts and give them value, you are basically saying ‘I am an ego’. And what you believe about yourself, you make true for you.

The ego is idolatry; the sign of limited and separated self, born in a body, doomed to suffer and to end its life in death.  It is the “will” that sees the Will of God as enemy, and takes a form in which it is denied. The ego is the “proof” that strength is weak and love is fearful, life is really death, and what opposes God alone is true.

Today you are asked not to indulge the ego. You do not have to listen to its attacks on truth and its focus on illusions. This is why it is a mind training. The thoughts of which you are aware, are not your real thoughts at all. You can go past them, beyond them lie the thoughts you think with God.

Our longer practice period today has as its purpose your acceptance of the fact that not only is there a very real connection between the function God gave you and your happiness, but that they are actually identical. God gives you only happiness. Therefore, the function He gave you must be happiness, even if it appears to be different. Today’s exercises are an attempt to go beyond these differences in appearance, and recognize a common content where it exists in truth.

Now you focus your attention on the truth. You activate your mind as you are reading this lesson, by letting it work in you, by letting related thoughts come to you. You are asked to look at the thoughts you are given, to really look at them and see how reasonable they are.

Begin the ten-to-fifteen-minute practice period by reviewing these thoughts:

God gives me only happiness.
He has given my function to me.
Therefore my function must be happiness.

Try to see the logic in this sequence, even if you do not yet accept the conclusion. It is only if the first two thoughts are wrong that the conclusion could be false. Let us, then, think about the premises for a while, as we are practicing.

When you are willing to look at these thoughts, when you allow them to enter your mind and work in you, there is an experience available that goes beyond the words altogether. This has nothing to do with study or homework as you remember it from a past experience, it really has only to do with a little willingness to let the words be true. There is no effort in this. The experience is given when you do the little that is asked of you.

The first premise is that God gives you only happiness. This could be false, of course, but in order to be false it is necessary to define God as something He is not. Love cannot give evil, and what is not happiness is evil. God cannot give what He does not have, and He cannot have what He is not. Unless God gives you only happiness, He must be evil. And it is this definition of Him you are believing if you do not accept the first premise.

The second premise is that God has given you your function. We have seen that there are only two parts of your mind. One is ruled by the ego, and is made up of illusions. The other is the home of the Holy Spirit, where truth abides. There are no other guides but these to choose between, and no other outcomes possible as a result of your choice but the fear that the ego always engenders, and the love that the Holy Spirit always offers to replace it.

Thus, it must be that your function is established by God through His Voice, or is made by the ego which you have made to replace Him. Which is true? Unless God gave your function to you, it must be the gift of the ego. Does the ego really have gifts to give, being itself an illusion and offering only the illusion of gifts?

Look at the reasonableness of this offering. It is not hard to grasp. It has nothing to do with intellect or intelligence as you see it. Let the meaning of these words be revealed to you. All you have to do is ask. Read the words, take your time with them, this is the most important thing you will do all day. It’s worth your while. The gift is eternal and true.

You will listen to madness or hear the truth. Try to make this choice as you think about the premises on which our conclusion rests. We can share in this conclusion, but in no other. For God Himself shares it with us. Today’s idea is another giant stride in the perception of the same as the same, and the different as different. On one side stand all illusions. All truth stands on the other. Let us try today to realize that only the truth is true.

A giant stride indeed, and with all the help in the universe you come to the only logical conclusion you can make. God gives only happiness. You are created by God. Happiness is your inheritance. What a great thing to remember. Beyond the body, beyond this world, lies an experience that is your natural state. Go there often today. And from there extend what you have been given. It will give you the rest and the happiness you seek.

My happiness and function are one, because God has given me both.

Let Me Not Forget My Function

L63

Today’s idea is merely another way of saying “Let me not wander into temptation.” The purpose of the world you see is to obscure your function of forgiveness, and provide you with a justification for forgetting it. It is the temptation to abandon God and His Son by taking on a physical appearance. It is this the body’s eyes look upon.

Doing the workbook lesson as you start your day, you begin to recognize how perfectly each lesson applies to your thoughts. It does take some awareness, some honesty, to not let thoughts slip by unnoticed. There is a certain pattern in your thinking, a way you use your thoughts specifically to bind yourself to worry, doubt and fear. Each lesson in the workbook offers you a way out of your sequential thinking, if you let it.

Nothing the body’s eyes seem to see can be anything but a form of temptation, since this was the purpose of the body itself. Yet we have learned that the Holy Spirit has another use for all the illusions you have made, and therefore He sees another purpose in them. To the Holy Spirit, the world is a place where you learn to forgive yourself what you think of as your sins. In this perception, the physical appearance of temptation becomes the spiritual recognition of salvation.

The power of your mind is such, that when you focus on a problem or a situation or a person, it becomes your whole world. Literally. You zero in on it, trying to find a solution, never recognizing that your intense focus is what the problem is. You never see the whole picture, unless you are willing to step back and let a new vision come in, a new purpose, a function.

To review our last few lessons, your function here is to be the light of the world, a function given you by God. It is only the arrogance of the ego that leads you to question this, and only the fear of the ego that induces you to regard yourself as unworthy of the task assigned to you by God Himself. The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness, because through it does the Son of God escape from all illusions, and thus from all temptation. The Son of God is you.

Only by fulfilling the function given you by God will you be happy. That is because your function is to be happy by using the means by which happiness becomes inevitable. There is no other way. Therefore, every time you choose whether or not to fulfill your function, you are really choosing whether or not to be happy.

The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness. So every grievance you have, binds you and the world you see. Now you become aware of the action of your mind, and you realize you need to remember your function quite often, because you tend to forget. And now you see that the choice whether to fulfill your function or not, is really the choice whether to be happy or not. It does deserve your attention.

Let us remember this today. Let us remind ourselves of it in the morning and again at night, and all through the day as well. Prepare yourself in advance for all the decisions you will make today by remembering they are all really very simple. Each one will lead to happiness or unhappiness. Can such a simple decision really be difficult to make? Let not the form of the decision deceive you. Complexity of form does not imply complexity of content. It is impossible that any decision on earth can have a content different from just this one simple choice. That is the only choice the Holy Spirit sees. Therefore it is the only choice there is.

Salvation is simple. Jesus says this often in A Course In Miracles. But it does need some preparation on your part, since you have made your thinking so complicated. Now you see that you only choose for happiness or unhappiness. The choice is yours, there is no one to blame for how you feel. This is where your freedom lies.

Let me not forget my function.

Let me not try to substitute mine for God’s.

Let me forgive and be happy.

Remind yourself often today of the simplicity of salvation. You decide whether to remember or not. And if you forget, try again. Don’t bind yourself to the past, be in the moment and decide to be happy, decide to fulfill your function as the light of the world. It is a mind training, it is a discipline, but once applied, it is the easiest thing there is.

Review Lesson 55

angel

The practicality of the first 50 workbook lessons is truly amazing. Apply them to anything you encounter, and what is offered you is something that goes beyond practical altogether. You are literally offered a holy instant, revelation, vision, communication between you and God. This can’t really be expressed in words, it is an experience. As Jesus says in the first chapters of A Course In Miracles “Revelation is intensely personal and cannot be meaningfully translated. That is why any attempt to describe it in words is impossible. Revelation induces only experience.” And as you apply the review lesson for today, you catch a glimpse of the infinite possibility that is offered you right here and right now.

I am determined to see things differently.
What I see now are but signs of disease, disaster and death. This cannot be what God created for His beloved Son. The very fact that I see such things is proof that I do not understand God. Therefore I also do not understand His Son. What I see tells me that I do not know who I am. I am determined to see the witnesses to the truth in me, rather than those which show me an illusion of myself.

What I see is a form of vengeance.
The world I see is hardly the representation of loving thoughts. It is a picture of attack on everything by everything. It is anything but a reflection of the Love of God and the love of His Son. It is my own attack thoughts that give rise to this picture. My loving thoughts will save me from this perception of the world, and give me the peace God intended me to have.

I can escape from this world by giving up attack thoughts.
Herein lies salvation, and nowhere else. Without attack thoughts I could not see a world of attack. As forgiveness allows love to return to my awareness, I will see a world of peace and safety and joy. And it is this I choose to see, in place of what I look on now.

I do not perceive my own best interests.
How could I recognize my own best interests when I do not know who I am? What I think are my best interests would merely bind me closer to the world of illusions. I am willing to follow the Guide God has given me to find out what my own best interests are, recognizing that I cannot perceive them by myself.

I do not know what anything is for.
To me, the purpose of everything is to prove that my illusions about myself are real. It is for this purpose that I attempt to use everyone and everything. It is for this that I believe the world is for. Therefore I do not recognize its real purpose. The purpose I have given the world has led to a frightening picture of it. Let me open my mind to the world’s real purpose by withdrawing the one I have given it, and learning the truth about it.

Pick any of these reviews, and it will work. There might be one that speaks to you more than another, use it. Apply it. Remind yourself often today of what is offered you. This is not about relying on your own feeble strength and interpretation, something is offered you that goes entirely beyond any limitation. It is the only thing that makes you truly happy. It is the only thing you truly want.

Review Lesson 54

clouds

These review lessons are amazing. Their compactness makes them even more expansive. Read these lessons by themselves and they offer you an experience that is not of this world. Read them all together and you find yourself transported to something words can’t describe. You are going so high, there is no limit. And everything that you have read, heard and seen, comes together in one holy instant. You recognize the thoughts you used to value are simply clouds that have prevented you from experiencing the light that you are. You are going beyond these clouds now, and your purpose is holier than you realize. Jesus is standing with you, cheering you on, saying, “Go on, clouds can’t stop you!” And you happily oblige.

The lessons are showing you that you are free. You are no longer bound by your own thoughts. You experience the power of your mind, you are remembering an ancient melody that is calling you Home. What a great opportunity, what a wonderful gift. A Course In Miracles has been given you and you have a purpose that is not of this world. All are called, but few choose to listen. You have listened, and you are home in Heaven with your Father now.

(16) I have no neutral thoughts.
Neutral thoughts are impossible because all thoughts have power. They will either make a false world or lead me to the real one. But thoughts cannot be without effects. As the world I see arises from my thinking errors, so will the real world rise before my eyes as I let my errors be corrected. My thoughts cannot be neither true nor false. They must be one or the other. What I see shows me which they are.

(17) I see no neutral things.
What I see witnesses to what I think. If I did not think I would not exist, because life is thought. Let me look on the world I see as the representation of my own state of mind. I know that my state of mind can change. And so I also know the world I see can change as well.

(18) I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my seeing.
If I have no private thoughts, I cannot see a private world. Even the mad idea of separation had to be shared before it could form the basis of the world I see. Yet that sharing was a sharing of nothing. I can also call upon my real thoughts, which share everything with everyone. As my thoughts of separation call to the separation thoughts of others, so my real thoughts awaken the real thoughts in them. And the world my real thoughts show me will dawn on their sight as well as mine.

(19) I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my thoughts.
I am alone in nothing. Everything I think or say or do teaches all the universe. A Son of God cannot think or speak or act in vain. He cannot be alone in anything. It is therefore in my power to change every mind along with mine, for mine is the power of God.

(20) I am determined to see.
Recognizing the shared nature of my thoughts, I am determined to see. I would look upon the witnesses that show me the thinking of the world has been changed. I would behold the proof that what has been done through me has enabled love to replace fear, laughter to replace tears, and abundance to replace loss. I would look upon the real world, and let it teach me that my will and the Will of God are one.

Review Lesson 53

Lesson 53

Today’s review lessons are really a life saver. Jesus tells you in the Introduction that you will need your learning most in situations that appear to be upsetting, rather than in those that already seem to be calm and quiet. It’s easy to read the words to yourself when you are comfortable, they make perfect sense. But it is when everything is in uproar that you experience the true value of these lessons as you apply them to yourself.

(11) My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world.
Since the thoughts of which I am aware do not mean anything, the world that pictures them can have no meaning. What is producing this world is insane, and so is what it produces. Reality is not insane, and I have real thoughts as well as insane ones. I can therefore see a real world, if I look to my real thoughts as my guide for seeing.

(12) I am upset because I see a meaningless world.
Insane thoughts are upsetting. They produce a world in which there is no order anywhere. Only chaos rules a world that represents chaotic thinking, and chaos has no laws. I cannot live in peace in such a world. I am grateful that this world is not real, and that I need not see it at all unless I choose to value it. And I do not choose to value what is totally insane and has no meaning.

(13) A meaningless world engenders fear.
The totally insane engenders fear because it is completely undependable, and offers no grounds for trust. Nothing in madness is dependable. It holds out no safety and no hope. But such a world is not real. I have given it the illusion of reality, and have suffered from my belief in it. Now I choose to withdraw this belief, and place my trust in reality. In choosing this, I will escape all the effects of the world of fear, because I am acknowledging that it does not exist.

(14) God did not create a meaningless world.
How can a meaningless world exist if God did not create it? He is the Source of all meaning, and everything that is real is in His Mind. It is in my mind too, because He created it with me. Why should I continue to suffer from the effects of my own insane thoughts, when the perfection of creation is my home? Let me remember the power of my decision, and recognize where I really abide.

(15) My thoughts are images that I have made.
Whatever I see reflects my thoughts. It is my thoughts that tell me where I am and what I am. The fact that I see a world in which there is suffering and loss and death shows me that I am seeing only the representation of my insane thoughts, and am not allowing my real thoughts to cast their beneficent light on what I see. Yet God’s way is sure. The images I have made cannot prevail against Him because it is not my will that they do so. My will is His, and I will place no other gods before Him.

The recurring word being ‘meaningless’, these lessons offer you the experience that you are literally giving everything you see all the meaning it has for you. You value it, and so you see it. You don’t see what you don’t value, it is really that simple. So Jesus is working with your mind. This is no small thing. It is everything. And it does require some rigorous honesty. Finally you don’t concern yourself with appearances anymore. Idols fall away, be they persons or situations.

An awakened mind is open. It is absolutely aware of everything. It doesn’t deny pain, but looks directly at it, feels it and lets it be healed through the recognition of causation. It doesn’t teach something outside of itself that it is the cause of the pain it is feeling, it recognizes that it is Cause itself. There is indeed nothing outside you. Go inward. Let your mind be undone, let God’s Thoughts be uncovered in you. They are there. They are waiting for you.

I Need But Call And You Will Answer Me

I am not asked to take salvation on the basis of an unsupported faith. For God has promised He will hear my call, and answer me Himself. Let me but learn from my experience that this is true, and faith in Him must surely come to me. This is the faith that will endure, and take me farther and still farther on the road that leads to Him. For thus I will be sure that He has not abandoned me and loves me still, awaiting but my call to give me all the help I need to come to Him.

The beauty of today’s lesson is that it directs you to the idea of an unsupported faith and then leads you past it to the offering of an experience. This is what A Course In Miracles is. Beyond the words, which so easily become concepts, there is an experience that is out of this world. It is waiting for you. But you can’t know it until you take a leap of faith and start applying the workbook lessons. It says it beautifully in the introduction to the workbook:

Some of the ideas you will find hard to believe, and others will seem quite startling.  It does not matter.  You are merely asked to apply them to what you see.  You are not asked to judge them, or even to believe them.  You are asked only to use them.  It is their use which will give them meaning to you, and show you they are true. Remember only this; you need not believe them, you need not accept them and you need not welcome them.  Some of them you may actively resist.  None of this will matter, nor decrease their efficacy.  But allow yourself to make no exceptions in applying the ideas the exercises contain.  What ever your reactions to the ideas may be, use them.  Nothing more than this is required.

So it does take some practice, it does take trust. Listen, learn and do. Jesus says, “This means Listen to My Voice, Learn to undo the error, and do something to correct it. The first two are not enough. The real members of my party are active workers.”

There is an activation that is happening, and it is happening in you. It can’t happen anywhere else. On this Thanksgiving Day, take a moment and look at what you have been given. You are in an awakening experience and it is happening despite you. Jesus is with you, the Holy Spirit guides you, God created you. All things are given you, all you have to do is ask for it.

Father, I thank You that Your promises will never fail in my experience, if I but test them out. Let me attempt therefore to try them, and to judge them not. Your Word is one with You. You give the means whereby conviction comes, and surety of Your abiding Love is gained at last.

Healing The Mind

It is amazing when you recognize how quickly you forget the simple message of A Course In Miracles. Every day a million little things happen that you have set up to distract you from the recognition that there is nothing outside of you. The body seems to be autonomous and real, and when sickness threatens your peace of mind you retreat in concern and worry without giving it a second thought.

It is helpful to remember that whenever you feel a loss of peace you can simply open op A Course In Miracles and read what it says. The message that you are offered is completely uncompromising and sets your mind in the right direction. Whenever you feel physical symptoms Jesus will direct you to the recognition that healing is of the mind and this realigns your thinking to the truth in you.

The body cannot heal, because it cannot make itself sick. It needs no healing. Its health or sickness depends entirely on how the mind perceives it, and the purpose that the mind would use it for. And it is obvious that a segment of the mind can see itself as separated from the Universal Purpose. When this occurs, the body becomes its weapon, used against this Purpose to demonstrate the “fact” that separation has occurred. The body thus becomes the instrument of illusion, acting accordingly; seeing what is not there, hearing what truth has never said, and behaving insanely, being imprisoned by insanity.

This is a course in mind training and it does require a complete dedication. Jesus says in the New Testament ‘Since you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth’. You are either completely in or out, you cannot dip your toe into this course and see how you can fit it into your limited perception. It will never work. The offering is a complete undoing of your mind and you die unto your Self. You literally die daily. Only to awaken to your Self.

Truth and illusion have no connection. This will remain forever true, however much you seek to connect them. But illusions are always connected, as is truth. Each is united, a complete thought-system, but totally disconnected to each other.

I invite you to read Chapter 19 today, and to read it with an open mind. Letting go of all your ideas about the body, about yourself, opens up a window to a new experience. This Course has much more to offer you than you have let it. This is a message from beyond time and space altogether, constantly inviting you to go beyond any idea of limitation about yourself. This is Jesus speaking to you, in a language you can understand. And when you let Him speak to you of things new and yet ancient, you will hear and you will remember you are as God created you.
