Miracles Are Seen In Light, And Light And Strength Are One

Miracles are seen in light

The idea for today is an extension of the previous one. You do not think of light in terms of strength, and darkness in terms of weakness. That is because your idea of what seeing means is tied up with the body and its eyes and brain. Thus you believe that you can change what you see by putting little bits of glass before your eyes. This is among the many magical beliefs that come from the conviction you are a body, and the body’s eyes can see.

You also believe the body’s brain can think. If you but understood the nature of thought, you could but laugh at this insane idea. It is as if you thought you held the match that lights the sun and gives it all its warmth; or that you held the world within your hand, securely bound until you let it go. Yet this is no more foolish than to believe the body’s eyes can see; the brain can think.

The workbook lesson for today follows the lesson ‘Miracles Are Seen In Light’. You have been shown how crucial the light is, you can’t see in darkness, and your mind is directed to find this light. Now you are asked to look at your belief that you are a body and that the body’s eyes can see, and you are shown that the body’s eyes will never see this light. You have been given a reset button for your belief that the body’s eyes can see and that the brain can think. It is not so. Let’s look a little further.

It is God’s strength in you that is the light in which you see, as it is His Mind with which you think. His strength denies your weakness. It is your weakness that sees through the body’s eyes, peering about in darkness to behold the likeness of itself; the small, the weak, the sickly and the dying, those in need, the helpless and afraid, the sad, the poor, the starving and the joyless. These are seen through eyes that cannot see and cannot bless.

Strength overlooks these things by seeing past appearances. It keeps its steady gaze upon the light that lies beyond them. It unites with light, of which it is a part. It sees itself. It brings the light in which your Self appears. In darkness you perceive a self that is not there. Strength is the truth about you; weakness is an idol falsely worshipped and adored that strength may be dispelled, and darkness rule where God appointed that there should be light.

There is a strength in you that is of God. It is your natural inheritance. This has nothing to do with the body, nothing to do with any idea of limitation. Your Identity is the grandeur that is given you by God. Beyond the body, beyond this world, beyond any idea you have of who you are and who God is, lies the truth. This is what you are directed to today. Try not to give it any form, let it be revealed to you exactly as it is.

Strength comes from truth, and shines with light its Source has given it; weakness reflects the darkness of its maker. It is sick and looks on sickness, which is like itself. Truth is a savior and can only will for happiness and peace for everyone.  It gives its strength to everyone who asks, in limitless supply. It sees that lack in anyone would be a lack in all. And so it gives its light that all may see and benefit as one. Its strength is shared, that it may bring to all the miracle in which they will unite in purpose and forgiveness and in love.

Weakness, which looks in darkness, cannot see a purpose in forgiveness and in love. It sees all others different from itself, and nothing in the world that it would share. It judges and condemns, but does not love. In darkness it remains to hide itself, and dreams that it is strong and conquering, a victor over limitations that but grow in darkness to enormous size.

It fears and it attacks and hates itself, and darkness covers everything it sees, leaving its dreams as fearful as itself. No miracles are here, but only hate. It separates itself from what it sees, while light and strength perceive themselves as one. The light of strength is not the light you see. It does not change and flicker and go out. It does not shift from night to day, and back to darkness till the morning comes again.

This is so spectacular. The strength of God has nothing to do with your limited idea of what strength is. You think of strength as victory, as a posture of puffed-upness where nothing can touch you or really affect you, yet all the while you are afraid. Real strength is defenselessness, the willingness to be zero. In that place, in a holy instant, you go past all illusions to the truth that is the strength of God in you. Beyond words, it is an experience. It is real and it is available to you right here and now.

The light of strength is constant, sure as love, forever glad to give itself away, because it cannot give but to itself. No one can ask in vain to share its sight, and none who enters its abode can leave without a miracle before his eyes, and strength and light abiding in his heart.

The strength in you will offer you the light, and guide your seeing so you do not dwell on idle shadows that the body’s eyes provide for self-deception. Strength and light unite in you, and where they meet, your Self stands ready to embrace you as Its Own. Such is the meeting place we try today to find and rest in, for the peace of God is where your Self, His Son, is waiting now to meet Itself again, and be as One.

In practicing this workbook you become so grateful for what it offers you. What is in you, given by God, you cannot lose. Once you experience it, you can always find it, no matter what the circumstance. Think of what is given you. The real law of cause and effect, the knowledge that there is nothing outside you. This is the real power of your mind. You can at any given moment, right here and right now, experience the truth of who you are.

Let us give twenty minutes twice today to join this meeting. Let yourself be brought unto your Self. Its strength will be the light in which the gift of sight is given you. Leave, then, the dark a little while today, and we will practice seeing in the light, closing the body’s eyes and asking truth to show us how to find the meeting place of self and Self, where light and strength are one.

Morning and evening we will practice thus. After the morning meeting, we will use the day in preparation for the time at night when we will meet again in trust. Let us repeat as often as we can the idea for today, and recognize that we are being introduced to sight, and led away from darkness to the light where only miracles can be perceived.

Review Lesson 60

L60

Reading the workbook lesson today, you experience how inspired you are by it. Every word feeds you, and you can truly say that the practice of the lesson is your daily bread. This goes beyond nice ideas, it is the recognition of a necessity for the truth, a recognition for the necessity of the undoing of your thought system and the belief in limitation.

(46) God is the Love in which I forgive.
God does not forgive because He has never condemned. The blameless cannot blame, and those who have accepted their innocence see nothing to forgive. Yet forgiveness is the means by which I will recognize my innocence. It is the reflection of God’s Love on earth. It will bring me near enough to Heaven that the Love of God can reach down to me and raise me up to Him.

There word ‘forgiveness’ is used 377 times in A Course In Miracles and it is used throughout the book: in the Text, in the Workbook and in the Manual For Teachers. And as you look at your mind honestly, at how you are using it, you see how prone you are to have a grievance. It happens in the blink of an eye, and Jesus mentions in the Course that you do not even consciously realize how quickly you choose for a grievance and the outcome that it offers you. The beauty of the lesson today is that it directs you to forgiveness, and immediately shows you that the only way you can forgive is through the strength of God.

(47) God is the strength in which I trust.
It is not my own strength through which I forgive. It is through the strength of God in me, which I am remembering as I forgive. As I begin to see, I recognize His reflection on earth. I forgive all things because I feel the stirring of His strength in me. And I begin to remember the Love I chose to forget, but which has not forgotten me.

Reading this review you start to recognize that somewhere, somehow, you have to surrender. You are led to a place in your own mind where you no longer want to assert yourself, but you want to remember your Self. There are beautiful lines that come to mind, words that have been given you throughout time that are now revived in you, like ‘Let go and let God’ and ‘Father, into Thy Hands I command my Spirit’. It’s a real experience, and you feel the peace that comes with this act of complete surrender and trust.

(48) There is nothing to fear.
How safe the world will look to me when I can see it! It will not look anything like what I imagine I see now. Everyone and everything I see will lean toward me to bless me. I will recognize in everyone my dearest Friend. What could there be to fear in a world that I have forgiven, and that has forgiven me?

Now you look at the world anew, because you have changed your mind. It is no longer a place to sustain grievances, it is now used to remember the Love of God. How does this happen? It’s a miracle. But is does depend on your decision. You have to want to see things differently. You have to be willing to be shown. You have to be willing to be undone, to no longer settle for limitation but ask for the experience of magnitude, which is your natural inheritance.

(49) God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.
There is not a moment in which God’s Voice ceases to call on my forgiveness to save me. There is not a moment in which His Voice fails to direct my thoughts, guide my actions and lead my feet. I am walking steadily on toward truth. There is nowhere else I can go, because God’s Voice is the only Voice and the only Guide that has been given to His Son.

(50) I am sustained by the Love of God.
As I listen to God’s Voice, I am sustained by His Love. As I open my eyes, His Love lights up the world for me to see. As I forgive, His Love reminds me that His Son is sinless. And as I look upon the world with the vision He has given me, I remember that I am His Son.

As your surrender, as you trust, you experience that you are taken care of. It is not in any specifics, just a great certainty. It is all you can truly depend on. This experience is between you and God, you know your Father and He knows you. And from this experience you extend what you have been given. Peace and love and joy abide in you and they increase as you give them away.

God Is The Strength In Which I Trust

angeldoor

If you are trusting in your own strength, you have every reason to be apprehensive, anxious and fearful. What can you predict or control? What is there in you that can be counted on? What would give you the ability to be aware of all the facets of any problem, and to resolve them in such a way that only good can come of it? What is there in you that gives you the recognition of the right solution, and the guarantee that it will be accomplished?

Of yourself you can do none of these things. To believe that you can is to put your trust where trust is unwarranted, and to justify fear, anxiety, depression, anger and sorrow. Who can put his faith in weakness and feel safe? Yet who can put his faith in strength and feel weak?

God is your safety in every circumstance. His Voice speaks for Him in all situations and in every aspect of all situations, telling you exactly what to do to call upon His strength and His protection. There are no exceptions because God has no exceptions. And the Voice which speaks for Him thinks as He does.

When your world is thrown into chaos, there is really only one ting to do: turn to the strength of God. It is essential that you recognize this strength is not outside of you. It is not something that is hard to find.

Today we will try to reach past your own weakness to the Source of real strength. Four five-minute practice periods are necessary today, and longer and more frequent ones are urged. Close your eyes and begin, as usual, by repeating the idea for the day. Then spend a minute or two in searching for situations in your life which you have invested with fear, dismissing each one by telling yourself:

God is the strength in which I trust.

Now try to slip past all concerns related to your own sense of inadequacy. It is obvious that any situation that causes you concern is associated with feelings of inadequacy, for otherwise you would believe that you could deal with the situation successfully. It is not by trusting yourself that you will gain confidence. But the strength of God in you is successful in all things.

You have to go inward and look inside of you. The answer is not anywhere else. You finally have to trust this awakening that you are undergoing, regardless of what your world is telling you. The first 50 lessons are very practical in their application and lead you to the experience ‘I am sustained by the love of God’. You are not sustained by money, pills, being liked or knowing the right people. All these things will fall away, but God is with you now. He is your food, your nourishment. All your problems have already been solved in Him, in the recognition that you only have one problem and that is your belief that you are separate from God. It isn’t so. If you need to step back from your world for a moment, go in your ‘closet’ and be still with God. From there you will step out anew, although you may look the same. You feel different, you think different, you are different. Awakening is an ongoing experience, it never stops. It’s an adventure. Let it happen in you.

The recognition of your own frailty is a necessary step in the correction of your errors, but it is hardly a sufficient one in giving you the confidence which you need, and to which you are entitled. You must also gain an awareness that confidence in your real strength is fully justified in every respect and in all circumstances.

In the latter phase of the practice period, try to reach down into your mind to a place of real safety. You will recognize that you have reached it if you feel a sense of deep peace, however briefly. Let go all the trivial things that churn and bubble on the surface of your mind, and reach down and below them to the Kingdom of Heaven. There is a place in you where there is perfect peace. There is a place in you where nothing is impossible. There is a place in you where the strength of God abides.

During the day, repeat the idea often. Use it as your answer to any disturbance. Remember that peace is your right, because you are giving your trust to the strength of God.

God Is My Strength. Vision Is His Gift.

vision

The idea for today combines two very powerful thoughts, both of major importance. It also sets forth a cause and effect relationship that explains why you cannot fail in your efforts to achieve the goal of the course. You will see because it is the Will of God. It is His strength, not your own, that gives you power. And it is His gift, rather than your own, that offers vision to you.

There is a strength that is available in this moment that is not of you. It is God’s strength, and today’s lesson directs your mind to it. Somewhere you know full well that there is a God and that He has nothing to do with your idea about Him. Ideas about God will always be limited to ideas about yourself. See yourself as a body and you will believe that God is a body. This is why Jesus, in A Course In Miracles and in the new testament, uses these ideas to their full advantage: “I place the future in the Hands of God”, “Father, into Thy Hands I command my spirit”.

God is indeed your strength, and what He gives is truly given. This means that you can receive it any time and anywhere, wherever you are, and in whatever circumstance you find yourself. Your passage through time and space is not at random. You cannot but be in the right place at the right time. Such is the strength of God. Such are His gifts.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter if you think you believe in God or not. In moments of distress, when all else has failed, even the greatest nonbeliever falls on his knees and starts to pray. God is with you. His Strength is yours. It is not limited in any way, nor defined as anything particular. You can see God in your brother, in a table, in a situation, in your Self.

Begin these practice periods by repeating the idea for today slowly, with your eyes open, looking about you. Then close your eyes and repeat the idea again, even slower than before. After this, try to think of nothing except thoughts that occur to you in relation to the idea for the day. You might think, for example:

Vision must be possible. God gives truly,

or

God’s gifts to me must be mine, because He gave them to me.

This is about the action of your mind. It is not about mindlessly repeating words. You are asked to say these words, to look at them, think about them, to find related thoughts. In short: to use your mind for the purpose in which it was created. God’s Thoughts are with you, but they have been clouded by meaningless thoughts of worry, anxiety and death, and even by limited ideas of happiness and holiness. You don’t have to do it anymore. You can re-direct your mind.

Remember, however, that active searching for relevant thoughts is not appropriate for today’s exercises. Try merely to step back and let the thoughts come. If you find this difficult, it is better to spend the practice period alternating between slow repetitions of the idea with eyes open, then with eyes closed, than it is to strain to find suitable thoughts.

There is no strain in this. As you apply your mind to the thought for today, let it find its own way. It knows where to go. It doesn’t really require a doing. It is an undoing. This Course is very simple, very reasonable. You are not asked to do more than you are able to. You have come far enough along now to step back and let God step in. And as you remember the Strength of God in you, vision is given in a way that is so easy you never thought it was possible.

God is the strength in which I trust

If you are trusting in your own strength, you have every reason to be apprehensive, anxious and fearful. What can you predict or control? What is there in you that can be counted on? What would give you the ability to be aware of all the facets of any problem, and to resolve them in such a way that only good can come of it? What is there in you that gives you the recognition of the right solution, and the guarantee that it will be accomplished?

Read these questions in today’s lesson and you will surely get some inkling of the impossible position in which you seem to find yourself. You know full well that in this chaotic world there is nothing you can predict or control, you have experienced how something you counted on has suddenly let you down, you see the impossibility of being aware of all the facets of any problem and the resolving of them in an all good way. At any moment, when you stand in complete honesty, you can see that you don’t really know what is going on or how to respond. Now something can happen, because standing at the point of not knowing all things can be revealed to you through the strength of God.

God is your safety in every circumstance. His Voice speaks for Him in all situations and in every aspect of all situations, telling you exactly what to do to call upon His strength and His protection. There are no exceptions because God has no exceptions. And the Voice which speaks for Him thinks as He does.

If you truly believed this, you would never have any cause for depression, worry, anxiety or doubt. God is your safety, His Voice speaks to you and all you have to do is listen. God’s Voice is speaking to you right now, and the practice of today’s lesson will open your mind to actually hear Him.

It does take honesty and a going inward. You are not asked to rise above what you perceive and reach the light. Instead, you are asked to look inside your mind for situations that arise any sort of anxiety in any form and to apply the lesson to it. This way, the light of God can reach you effortlessly. It doesn’t take a doing on your part, it is in fact an undoing. You let go of all your ideas and let God in.

Knowing this, your only desire and determination will be to reach the place where there is perfect peace, where there is God. It takes no effort on your part, only a little willingness.

God is the strength in which I trust.

God is my strength. Vision is His gift.

The idea for today combines two very powerful thoughts, both of major importance.

God is my strength.
Vision is His gift.

It also sets forth a cause and effect relationship that explains why you cannot fail in your efforts to achieve the goal of the course. You will see because it is the Will of God. It is His strength, not your own, that gives you power. And it is His gift, rather than your own, that offers vision to you.

It is amazing when you really read what A Course In Miracles says. Really read it. You take a moment and let every word, every sentence, sink in. The message is not of this world, it is completely from out of time. The words take you out in the universe, where you truly belong. They lift you out of very trial and tribulation, out of depression or anger, out of sickness and pain. Let it sink into your mind today: God is my strength. Vision is His gift.

God’s gifts are truly given, each and every moment, right here and right now. It has nothing to do with place, it has nothing to do with time, nothing to do with seeming things outside of you, it’s all happening in you. You are given everything you need right now. That should make you indescribably happy. Read today’s lesson and joyous thoughts come to mind, joyous thoughts of God.

Vision must be possible. God gives truly.
God’s gifts to me must be mine, because He gave them to me.

Remember this lesson often today. As Jesus tells you, it is the reminder that the goal of this course is important to you. That you haven’t forgotten it. It is a statement of your determination, your perseverance, your gratitude.

God is my strength. Vision is His gift.
