A Course In Miracles offers you the simple recognition that the present is the only time there is. The past is over, the future can only be imagined. This moment, right here and right now, is all there is to time.
When you are present in this moment, you can see things as they truly are. You do not put a past reference on anything, you don’t plan to use things for a future event. As you look on things open-eyed, the truth is revealed to you in all its simplicity.
What time but now can truth be recognized? The present is the only time there is. And so today, this instant, now, we come to look upon what is forever there; not in our sight, but in the eyes of Christ. He looks past time, and sees eternity as represented there. He hears the sounds the senseless, busy world engenders, yet He hears them faintly. For beyond them all He hears the song of Heaven, and the Voice for God more clear, more meaningful, more near.
All the workbook lessons do, is bring you to a place in your own mind where you recognize that your judgments, memories and anticipations are not real and are, in fact, not helpful to you in your awakening. And as you stand in the empty place that is left when you let go of all your ideas, the Holy Spirit uses it to show you the truth of who you are. The clincher is, that you can’t know that the Holy Spirit steps in until you make room for him. You can be told over and over again what you need to do and what will happen when you do, but ultimately it is a leap of faith. Somewhere you simply decide to take a chance on Love.
Today you are asking for help to let go of the past. You recognize that the past is only imagined, you never see the full picture, and your ideas about anything are no longer helpful. You want your ideas and thoughts to be replaced with the truth. And all you have to do is ask. Don’t worry if there seems to be no response. Your request has been heard and you did receive the answer. Finally you no longer trust your limited instincts and beliefs anymore, you take the leap of faith and trust.
The past is over. It can touch me not.
Unless the past is over in my mind, the real world must escape my sight. For I am really looking nowhere; seeing but what is not there. How can I then perceive the world forgiveness offers? This the past was made to hide, for this the world that can be looked on only now. It has no past. For what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven it is gone.
Father, let me not look upon a past that is not there. For You have offered me Your Own replacement, in a present world the past has left untouched and free of sin. Here is the end of guilt. And here am I made ready for Your final step. Shall I demand that You wait longer for Your Son to find the loveliness You planned to be the end of all his dreams and all his pain?
