I Give The Miracles I Have Received

One

No one can give what he has not received. To give a thing requires first you have it in your own possession. Here the laws of Heaven and the world agree. But here they also separate. The world believes that to possess a thing, it must be kept. Salvation teaches otherwise. To give is how to recognize you have received. It is the proof that what you have is yours.

A Course In Miracles  always leads you to the experience that truth is exactly the opposite of what you believe it is. You are shown the law of cause and effect, that there is nothing outside of you, that to give and to receive are one. The experience is required, otherwise it’s just words: beautiful words, reasonable words, but empty.

You understand that you are healed when you give healing. You accept forgiveness as accomplished in yourself when you forgive. You recognize your brother as yourself, and thus do you perceive that you are whole. There is no miracle you cannot give, for all are given you. Receive them now by opening the storehouse of your mind where they are laid, and giving them away.

The storehouse of your mind… reading this sentence, your mind opens up to infinite possibilities. Is there really a place in your mind filled with the gifts of God? Indeed there is. But until you become aware of this storehouse, it remains unused, and you will be unaware of all the gifts that are available to you right here and now. How do you recognize this storehouse? By giving the gifts away, certainly not by holding on and tightly guarding them, afraid to lose them. This is the key: you have to give them away in order to know that you have them.

Christ’s vision is a miracle. It comes from far beyond itself, for it reflects Eternal Love and the rebirth of love which never dies, but has been kept obscure. Christ’s vision pictures Heaven, for it sees a world so like to Heaven that what God created perfect can be mirrored there. The darkened glass the world presents can show but twisted images in broken parts. The real world pictures Heaven’s innocence.

Christ’s vision is the miracle in which all miracles are born. It is their source, remaining with each miracle you give, and yet remaining yours. It is the bond by which the giver and receiver are united in extension here on earth, as they are one in Heaven. Christ beholds no sin in anyone. And in His sight the sinless are as one. Their holiness was given by His Father and Himself.

Christ’s vision is the bridge between the worlds. And in its power can you safely trust to carry you from this world into one made holy by forgiveness. Things which seem quite solid here are merely shadows there; transparent, faintly seen, at times forgot, and never able to obscure the light that shines beyond them. Holiness has been restored to vision, and the blind can see.

This is available to you, right here and right now. Just for a moment, lay aside all you think you know and value. Clear your mind of everything, all worry about past and future events. Being in this moment, now, is beyond time altogether. Now has nothing to do with time. Here has nothing to do with space. Be still, just for an instant, and allow God’s gifts to reveal themselves to you.

This is the Holy Spirit’s single gift; the treasure house to which you can appeal with perfect certainty for all the things that can contribute to your happiness. All are laid here already. All can be received but for the asking. Here the door is never locked, and no one is denied his least request or his most urgent need. There is no sickness not already healed, no lack unsatisfied, no need unmet within this golden treasury of Christ.

A storehouse filled with treasures that are true. They are eternal and have always been there, and now you finally become aware of them. How can you feel poor with such treasures given you? How can you be concerned when you recognize all you have been given? There is an experience available to you that has nothing to do with the world you see. And it is all contained in you.

Take from His storehouse, that its treasures may increase. His lilies do not leave their home when they are carried back into the world. Their roots remain. They do not leave their source, but carry its beneficence with them, and turn the world into a garden like the one they came from, and to which they go again with added fragrance. Now are they twice blessed. The messages they brought from Christ have been delivered, and returned to them. And they return them gladly unto Him.

Beyond the laws of the world you see, there is a certainty that is of God. His gifts increase as they are given away, because their roots are of Him and will not falter and cannot die. The experience of the truth of this is available to you, by the simple act of giving what you have been given. Practice this today. Start giving. Beyond all material things there are gifts which are eternal. Let it be revealed to you what you can give, then trust in giving it away. You cannot lose by giving.

Behold the store of miracles set out for you to give. Are you not worth the gift, when God appointed it be given you? Judge not God’s Son, but follow in the way He has established. Christ has dreamed the dream of a forgiven world. It is His gift, whereby a sweet transition can be made from death to life; from hopelessness to hope. Let us an instant dream with Him. His dream awakens us to truth. His vision gives the means for a return to our unlost and everlasting sanctity in God.

Review Lesson 120

I rest in God

The beauty of today’s review lesson is the peace and rest it offers. In you is a place of respite from the world you see, a quiet place that is the altar of God, your natural inheritance that is your complete dependence on your Creator. These lessons are not just words that you repeat to yourself in the morning and that make you feel good for a moment, after which you continue getting lost in the turmoil of your existence in time and space. They are not concepts which you are asked to intellectually understand and then lay aside. These words offer you a real experience, if you let them.

(109) I rest in God.

I rest in God today, and let Him work in me and
through me, while I rest in Him in quiet and in
perfect certainty.

(110) I am as God created me.

I am God’s Son. Today I lay aside all sick illusions of
myself, and let my Father tell me Who I really am.

You have to, somewhere, want more than just a flimsy moment of feeling good. God’s will for you is perfect happiness, and perfect happiness has nothing to do with time and space, nothing to do with a body, nothing to do with this world. It is an experience of remembering who you truly are, and it is given by God as you direct your mind to the truth of the words you speak today. Once you have this experience, it is something you can always go back to when you forget. As Jesus tells you in the introduction to these lessons:

In these reviews, we stress the need to let your learning not lie idly by between your longer practice periods.  Attempt to give your daily two ideas a brief but serious review each hour.  Use one on the hour, and the other one a half an hour later.  You need not give more than just a moment to each one.  Repeat it, and allow your mind to rest a little time in silence and in peace.  Then turn to other things, but try to keep the thought with you, and let it serve to help you keep your peace throughout the day as well.

If you are shaken, think of it again.  These practice periods are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.  Do not repeat the thought and lay it down.  Its usefulness is limitless to you.  And it is meant to serve you in all ways, all times and places, and whenever you need help of any kind.  Try, then, to take it with you in the business of the day and make it holy, worthy of God’s Son, acceptable to God and to your Self.

It is a practice, this is why it is called a mind training. The workbook lessons help you to keep your mind focused on God, they offer you a frame of reference for the truth in you, but the application of the lesson is up to you. The more you offer this Course, the more it offers you. The more you apply your mind to it, the more you experience the simplicity and effortlessness of remembering Who you are. There is an experience available to you that goes beyond the world you see altogether, and it is this you truly want.

Do not forget how little you have learned.
Do not forget how much you can learn now.
Do not forget your Father’s need of you,
As you review these thoughts He gave to you.

On the hour:
I rest in God.

On the half hour:
I am as God created me.

I Am As God Created Me

asgodcreatedme

Today’s lesson is essential in the workbook of A Course In Miracles. There are 3 lessons with the same title:

Lesson 94 ~ I am as God created me.
Lesson 100 ~ I am as God created me.
Lesson 162 ~ I am as God created me.

After that come the reviews, so you can say that this is an important lesson. You may, in fact, say it is the most important lesson. It offers you the remembering of who you truly are. It is the essence of you.

Today we continue with the one idea which brings complete salvation; the one statement which makes all forms of temptation powerless; the one thought which renders the ego silent and entirely undone. You are as God created you.  The sounds of this world are still, the sights of this world disappear, and all the thoughts that this world ever held are wiped away forever by this one idea. Here is salvation accomplished. Here is sanity restored.

You may read this and wonder how the sounds of this world can be still, how the sights of this world disappear, and how all thoughts are wiped away. In the text Jesus tells you something of the same order: the body should not feel at all. How is this possible? Certainly it is not of your doing, since you believe you are a body in a world. You trust your ears and eyes implicitly, even though they have been faulty witnesses. You rely on them for your judgments, to keep  separation from everyone and everything in place. Jesus has asked you why you keep trusting your judgements, when you have been proven wrong so often. And then there are times when you have been mistaken, and you were completely unaware how wrong you actually were. It is like you are stuck in a bubble, and you can’t see past it. Today’s lesson offers you a way out.

True light is strength, and strength is sinlessness. If you remain as God created you, you must be strong and light must be in you. He Who ensured your sinlessness must be the guarantee of strength and light as well. You are as God created you. Darkness cannot obscure the glory of God’s Son. You stand in light, strong in the sinlessness in which you were created, and in which you will remain throughout eternity.

Today we will again devote the first five minutes of each waking hour to the attempt to feel the truth in you. Begin these times of searching with these words:

I am as God created me.
I am His Son eternally.

Now try to reach the Son of God in you. This is the Self that never sinned, nor made an image to replace reality. This is the Self that never left Its home in God to walk the world uncertainly. This is the Self that knows no fear, nor could conceive of loss or suffering or death.

Make no mistake about it, this is not a doing but an undoing. It is not hard to reach God, it doesn’t take great effort. It  is not a long, hard road upward that you walk with bleeding feet, exhausted when you reach your goal. It is a letting go, a stepping back.

Nothing is required of you to reach this goal except to lay all idols and self-images aside; go past the list of attributes, both good and bad, you have ascribed to yourself; and wait in silent expectancy for the truth. God has Himself promised that it will be revealed to all who ask for it. You are asking now. You cannot fail because He cannot fail.

Ask and you shall receive. It can’t be any simpler. You can practice this lesson wherever you are, whenever you are. In the midst of chaos, you can still your mind. At work, at play, driving, singing, dancing. The truth will reveal itself to you effortlessly and fill you with light and peace and joy.

Tell yourself frequently today that you are as God created you. And be sure to respond to anyone who seems to irritate you with these words:

You are as God created you.
You are His Son eternally.

You simply let it all go, because you want to experience the truth. No trivial upset is worth disrupting your peace of mind. It always comes down to a simple question ‘Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?’ Let it all go today. Let it all be God. What is offered you is so much more than you can imagine. And when you experience it, you will realize that you want it above all else.

The Holy Spirit Speaks Through Me Today

The Holy Spirit needs my voice today, that all the world may listen to Your Voice, and hear Your Word through me. I am resolved to let You speak through me, for I would use no words but Yours, and have no thoughts which are apart from Yours, for only Yours are true. I would be savior to the world I made. For having damned it I would set it free, that I may find escape, and hear the Word Your holy Voice will speak to me today.

As you look at the workbook lessons, really look at them, you start to recognize that they are a declaration. You read the sentences, you say them out loud, and you hear what you are expressing.

The Holy Spirit needs my voice today.

I am resolved to let You speak through me.

Look at the word ‘resolve’. There is a clear determination in it, there is nothing  uncertain about it.

I would be savior to the world I made.

‘Would be’ is also a declaration. A statement of fact. The truth of the matter.

Now is the time to step up to the plate. Now is the time to declare your Self as created by God. It matters what you say. It matters what you do. What is your purpose? Every instant you are asked to remember who you are. And in that instant of remembering time disappears completely. This is not a sequential event, one thing doesn’t follow another in a long road to truth. One instant is all it takes to remember completely, and in that recognition you know that this moment, right now, is the only time there is.

We teach today what we would learn, and that alone. And so our learning goal becomes an unconflicted one, and possible of easy reach and quick accomplishment. How gladly does the Holy Spirit come to rescue us from hell, when we allow His teaching to persuade the world, through us, to seek and find the easy path to God.

Healing The Mind

It is amazing when you recognize how quickly you forget the simple message of A Course In Miracles. Every day a million little things happen that you have set up to distract you from the recognition that there is nothing outside of you. The body seems to be autonomous and real, and when sickness threatens your peace of mind you retreat in concern and worry without giving it a second thought.

It is helpful to remember that whenever you feel a loss of peace you can simply open op A Course In Miracles and read what it says. The message that you are offered is completely uncompromising and sets your mind in the right direction. Whenever you feel physical symptoms Jesus will direct you to the recognition that healing is of the mind and this realigns your thinking to the truth in you.

The body cannot heal, because it cannot make itself sick. It needs no healing. Its health or sickness depends entirely on how the mind perceives it, and the purpose that the mind would use it for. And it is obvious that a segment of the mind can see itself as separated from the Universal Purpose. When this occurs, the body becomes its weapon, used against this Purpose to demonstrate the “fact” that separation has occurred. The body thus becomes the instrument of illusion, acting accordingly; seeing what is not there, hearing what truth has never said, and behaving insanely, being imprisoned by insanity.

This is a course in mind training and it does require a complete dedication. Jesus says in the New Testament ‘Since you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth’. You are either completely in or out, you cannot dip your toe into this course and see how you can fit it into your limited perception. It will never work. The offering is a complete undoing of your mind and you die unto your Self. You literally die daily. Only to awaken to your Self.

Truth and illusion have no connection. This will remain forever true, however much you seek to connect them. But illusions are always connected, as is truth. Each is united, a complete thought-system, but totally disconnected to each other.

I invite you to read Chapter 19 today, and to read it with an open mind. Letting go of all your ideas about the body, about yourself, opens up a window to a new experience. This Course has much more to offer you than you have let it. This is a message from beyond time and space altogether, constantly inviting you to go beyond any idea of limitation about yourself. This is Jesus speaking to you, in a language you can understand. And when you let Him speak to you of things new and yet ancient, you will hear and you will remember you are as God created you.

My Sight Goes Forth To Look Upon Christ’s Face

I ask Your blessing on my sight today. It is the means which You have chosen to become the way to show me my mistakes, and look beyond them. It is given me to find a new perception through the Guide You gave to me, and through His lessons to surpass perception and return to truth. I ask for the illusion which transcends all those I made. Today I choose to see a world forgiven, in which everyone shows me the face of Christ, and teaches me that what I look upon belongs to me; that nothing is, except Your holy Son.

It is interesting that in today’s lesson you ask for the illusion that transcends all the ones that you have made. In A Course In Miracles Jesus makes reference to the real world and to real perception, but He also makes it clear that this is only the beginning. It is through your willingness to see things differently that your fear of God is seen exactly for what it is and you open your mind for the final step that is taken by God.

The real world is a symbol, like the rest of what perception offers. Yet it stands for what is opposite to what you made. Your world is seen through eyes of fear, and brings the witnesses of terror to your mind. The real world cannot be perceived except through eyes forgiveness blesses, so they see a world where terror is impossible, and witnesses to fear can not be found.

The real world holds a counterpart for each unhappy thought reflected in your world; a sure correction for the sights of fear and sounds of battle which your world contains. The real world shows a world seen differently, through quiet eyes and with a mind at peace. Nothing but rest is there. There are no cries of pain and sorrow heard, for nothing here remains outside forgiveness. And the sights are gentle. Only happy sights and sounds can reach the mind that has forgiven itself.

What need has such a mind for thoughts of death, attack and murder? What can it perceive surrounding it but safety, love and joy? What is there it would choose to be condemned, and what is there that it would judge against? The world it sees arises from a mind at peace within itself. No danger lurks in anything it sees, for it is kind and only kindness does it look upon.

The real world is the symbol that the dream of sin and guilt is over, and God’s Son no longer sleeps. His waking eyes perceive the sure reflection of his Father’s Love; the certain promise that he is redeemed. The real world signifies the end of time, for its perception makes time purposeless.

The Holy Spirit has no need of time when it has served His purpose. Now He waits but that one instant more for God to take His final step, and time has disappeared, taking perception with it as it goes, and leaving but the Truth to be Itself. That instant is our goal, for it contains the memory of God. And as we look upon a world forgiven, it is He Who calls to us and comes to take us home, reminding us of our Identity Which our forgiveness has restored to us.

Perception is now a tool that the Holy Spirit can use for your awakening, for your remembering of the truth about yourself. It is not of your own doing. Your willingness to apply the lesson today opens a door for the Holy Spirit to enter and use everything for the purpose of salvation. You can see things differently, and in that experience you go beyond this world altogether and you see it for what it is. The world you see is but an illusion, but it is given you to go beyond the illusion and experience the truth.

Today our sight is blessed indeed. We share one vision, as we look upon the face of Him Whose Self is ours. We are one because of Him Who is the Son of God; of Him Who is our own Identity.

Truth Will Correct All Errors In My Mind

(107) Truth will correct all errors in my mind.

I am mistaken when I think I can be hurt in any way. I am God’s Son, whose Self rests safely in the Mind of God.

(108) To give and to receive are one in truth.

I will forgive all things today, that I may learn how to accept the truth in me, and come to recognize my sinlessness.

Doing the lesson this morning, I was struck by the last sentence in the review.

I will forgive all things today, that I may learn how to accept the truth in me, and come to recognize my sinlessness.

There are two I‘s in that sentence, one me and one my. I am sure there is a song in there somewhere, but the recognition is really that this is only about what is happening in my mind. This is not about things ‘out there’, it is about the action of my mind. I will forgive. I may learn how to accept the truth in me. I come to recognize my sinlessness. This is truly the singularity of what A Course In Miracles offers. It is always only about your thoughts, your beliefs, your judgments in your own mind. And the recognition that your salvation lies in your forgiveness.

Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. It does not pardon sins and make them real. It sees there was no sin. And in this view are all your sins forgiven.

Again, forgiveness recognizes that what you are holding on to has not occurred. And this way your sins are forgiven. To give and to receive are one in truth. What you are holding on to is binding you to pain and misery and death. When you are in a grievance, you are dead. All energy and life is sucked from you in your attempt to hold on to something on which we can at least agree that it is over and gone. Finally you recognize that wanting to be right about your grievance is simply too painful. And so you are willing to consider letting it go, remembering the lesson for today.

I am mistaken when I think I can be hurt in any way. I am God’s Son, whose Self rests safely in the Mind of God.

I Seek But What Belongs To Me In Truth

Today’s review lessons are:

(103) God, being Love, is also happiness.

Let me remember love is happiness, and nothing else brings joy. And so I choose to entertain no substitutes
for love.

(104) I seek but what belongs to me in truth.

Love is my heritage, and with it joy. These are the gifts my Father gave to me. I would accept all that is
mine in truth.

The amazing thing about A Course In Miracles is how alive each sentence is. Every word contains infinite possibilities and is always only limited by your preconceived ideas about it. The more you read this Course, the more you apply the lessons, the more it speaks to you, the more you recognize how alive it really is. Each lesson is a complete and whole idea that you can use to replace all your senseless musings. And as you repeat the lesson, think about it, apply it as you are asked, it finds its way in your mind. And as Jesus says: your mind knows how to use the lessons wisely.

You have been given them in perfect trust; in perfect confidence that you would use them well; in perfect faith that you would see their messages and use them for yourself.  Offer them to your mind in that same trust and confidence and faith.  It will not fail.  It is the Holy Spirit’s chosen means for your salvation.  Since it has His trust, His means must surely merit yours as well.

What Jesus offers you here is confidence and trust. He trusts you. He knows your mind. He knows you better than you know yourself, and that is the good news. Your simple contribution is the application of the ideas for today, nothing more, but certainly nothing less. 5 Minutes in the morning, 5 minutes in the evening, and every half hour in between.

The exercises to be done throughout the day are equally important, and perhaps of even greater value.  You have been inclined to practice only at appointed times, and then go on your way to other things, without applying what you learned to them.  As a result, you have gained little reinforcement, and have not given your learning a fair chance to prove how great are its potential gifts to you.  Here is another chance to use it well.

Just so you know, Jesus in on to you. He knows how your mind wanders. When you pretend to ignore how you are failing to apply the lesson as you are asked, Jesus is standing next to you in absolute patience. And when your whole world falls apart, yet again, He stands there still and loves you with an eternal love. And He tells you: here is another chance. Let’s try again.

All you have to do, is apply the lesson. When you are in any form of distress, open up your Course In Miracles. Jesus even addresses Helen Schucman, the scribe of the Course, in her unwillingness to simply open up the book when she needs help. All you need is in there. But a closed book, in your unwillingness to simply read it and apply it, will do you no good. There are simple words that Jesus is giving you, and hear them well because they will help you tremendously:

Do not forget how little you have learned.
Do not forget how much you can learn now.
Do not forget your Father’s need of you,
As you review these thoughts He gave to you.

Let Me Be Still And Listen To The Truth

If you will lay aside the ego’s voice, however loudly it may seem to call; if you will not accept its petty gifts that give you nothing that you really want; if you will listen with an open mind, that has not told you what salvation is; then you will hear the mighty Voice of truth, quiet in power, strong in stillness, and completely certain in Its messages.

Today’s lesson shows you very clearly that there is a Voice speaking to you, and it is the Voice of truth. It also shows you that this Voice is still and yet strong. How can a Voice be still and yet speak to you at the same time? It is because this Voice has nothing to do with what you believe a voice to be. It is not loud and screaming, it doesn’t yell for attention. It is certain and still.

Helen Schucman, the scribe of A Course In Miracles, heard this Voice speak to her. It said, “This is A Course In Miracles. Please take notes.” She describes the Voice as not speaking to her in words, and yet she heard it very clearly. “I call it a voice, but “a voice” has sounds…or sounds as though it has something to do with hearing. And I didn’t hear anything. I think it’s the sort of hearing that you can’t really describe. It doesn’t have anything to do with ears, or waves hitting a drum or anything on that order. Maybe I’m using the wrong word when I say “hear.” I sort of recognized it, it was very rapid”

When you hear the Voice for God, it is not something you can explain nor particularly describe. Yet you can hear it. It is speaking to you. But you can only hear it when you calm down, when you are still, when you let go of all your preconceived ideas and notions. The Voice for God comes to a still and open mind.

Listen, and hear your Father speak to you through His appointed Voice, which silences the thunder of the meaningless, and shows the way to peace to those who cannot see. Be still today and listen to the truth. Be not deceived by voices of the dead, which tell you they have found the source of life and offer it to you for your belief. Attend them not, but listen to the truth.

So maybe it takes a little practice. This is what the workbook lessons are for. A lesson for every day, moments in each day to stop everything that keeps your mind preoccupied, and to remember God. Those few minutes, these instants, really offer you something way beyond time. A minute is multiplied to shorten thousands of years of searching in vain. What you have been looking for was never outside of you. What you wanted to find was already in you.

Today the promise of God’s Word is kept. Hear and be silent. He would speak to you. He comes with miracles a thousand times as happy and as wonderful as those you ever dreamed or wished for in your dreams. His miracles are true. They will not fade when dreaming ends. They end the dream instead; and last forever, for they come from God to His dear Son, whose other name is you. Prepare yourself for miracles today. Today allow your Father’s ancient pledge to you and all your brothers to be kept.

It is a beautiful lesson. Clear in its simplicity. Listen. Hear. God is speaking to you. He is speaking to you now as He has always done, waiting for you to listen. Today is the day.

If I Am Bound, My Father Is Not Free

Today’s lesson shows you the power of your mind and makes you look at how you bind everything when you choose not to be free. But what is freedom? It doesn’t have anything to do with your ideas about it. You think that freedom is doing whatever you want, or finding a safe haven in a world of chaos. But ultimately freedom is the recognition that you are as God created you, that you are mind and pure mind, and that the world you think is real has nothing to do with reality.

If I accept that I am prisoner within a body, in a world in which all things that seem to live appear to die, then is my Father prisoner with me. And this do I believe, when I maintain the laws the world obeys must I obey; the frailties and the sins which I perceive are real, and cannot be escaped. If I am bound in any way, I do not know my Father nor my Self. And I am lost to all reality. For truth is free, and what is bound is not a part of truth.

It does start with the simple statement, “Not this.” You have to somewhere deny pain, sickness and death as your reality, or you will be bound forever by your ideas about them. It is not about denying the world’s laws but still maintaining the world is real. It is not about recklessly driving through a red traffic light or robbing a store simply because you need money. It is about denying this world of pain, sickness and death in its totality and, at least in your mind, saying “Enough of that, I want to know that I am as God created me.” And that declaration is completely up to you.

Father, I ask for nothing but the truth. I have had many foolish thoughts about myself and my creation, and have brought a dream of fear into my mind. Today, I would not dream. I choose the way to You instead of madness and instead of fear. For truth is safe, and only love is sure.

This is a beautiful prayer from you to your Father. It has nothing to do with the world, nothing to do with anybody else, it is extremely personal. This is where you go into your closet, into your mind, and you are honest with yourself. What do you want? Do you want the truth? It is here now. Be willing to stop for a moment, use the lesson for today, and you will recognize an experience beyond this world lies waiting for you, right here and right now.
